Supposedly this is the real deal footage from an upcoming movie, although some speculate it's for the game that could be unveiled at E3.

If thats a movie... the concept looks fucking stupid.
None of those characters are believeable...

The original movie where they are summoned to another world and all the fantasy elements is the only way MK can make sense as a movie.

Seriously Sharky, was MK ever even supposed to be believable?

All day I have seen people comment on that around forums and I sincerely don't get that opinion.. I could argue a lot on how this doesn't fit with any of the previous story of the characters though, but seriously it doesn't really matter..

MK has always been about over-the-top unrealistic superpowerful characters beating the living shit out of eachothers. I just hope they add fireballs and stuff to this. And make Scorpion turn into a skeleton.

Also, Reptile is just sick.

This clip was awesome. I hope it's part of the next game or something.

If they are going to try and write the Mortal Kombat series into a real world 'non magic, non fantasy' setting... I just see it becoming a cheesey, unbelieveable mess.

And not the good kind of cheesey like the original... The shit kind like the new Karate Kid.

It's mindless entertainment, just as it used to be.. Only times change, and today nobody would care for all that magic and stuff..

Unbelievable? Yes. Entertaining? I certainly hope so.

I think now more than ever people would be digging the magic and supernatural stuff. Look at the popularity of SUper Heroes and Twilight etc.

In any event, I also prefer the more fantastical MK style, but this real world approach should be an interesting re-imagining at least.

Interesting? It looks mind-numbingly stupid to me.

Like Sharky was saying: Bad, but not "so bad it's good".

Well, interesting in that they seem to have come up with alternate backstories for most of the cast at least. I don't particularly like it either, but it seems to hold water.

Exactly, I think they have just boring'd what was originally a really cool concept.

If they had remade the first movie, maybe made it a bit better in concept it could have been pretty cool. Seeing the different worlds that each fighter comes from and having some really out there crazy places would be awesome.

Wait a second, I just remembered that you're also a person who likes western comic books. Never mind what I was going to say, or the comparisons I was going to make. :P

Update: Not a movie.

Jeri Ryan posted on her twitter that it was just a proof of concept short film to get the studio interested in making a movie.

Yeah, I saw a link about that.

I don't really like the look of this film at all, but I'm not even a Mortal Kombat fan. Still, I don't quite understand why they have to go down the realism route at all, change the characters name and you wouldn't even think this was Mortal Kombat outside of Scorpions little... Chain... Thingy... Thing! But I suppose some fans will love it.

[spoiler:2bhk3fw5]Also lawl Johnny Cage is the Kenny of the Mortal Kombat universe[/spoiler:2bhk3fw5]

And I remembered you like Bentley Jones  :P .

Haha, nah seriously, I agree the thing is absolutely ridiculous and silly, but when I said it 'holds water' they seem to have covered all the main characters and found a way to keep them relatively similar while putting a new spin on it.

In any event, fuck this movie because Johnny Cage died.
