I am just astounded at the amounts of money some people waste on collectors items. That modern Sonic statue's price was revealed, $220, and people are just like "yeah sure! I'll buy that!". I've also seen a lot of fans dropping $600+ on those 20th anniversary statues.
Yeah yeah, pot calling the kettle black, I admit I do buy silly Sonic merch. But it's usually a $15 figure or a book or something. Most I've ever spent was $125 on the Generations collectors edition, but I figured it was a special event and $50 of that was on the game itself which I was planning to get anyway. Plus I really didn't buy anything else by the way of games for the next two months.
I guess it's because I've become accustomed to living on my own, and I pay rent, car payments and buy groceries. I can still easily afford stuff like the occasional blu-ray or game. But anything over $100 requires thought, and I usually only buy something "big" once or twice a year, which ends up being an entertainment device that I can get milage out of and not just a shelf decoration.
I'd like to say I wish I had the money to spend on something as cool looking, but unnecessary as, a statue. But if I did have the money, I'd probably save it or use it towards a trip or a Vita or 3DS.
