The Haunted Mask is legitimately good. I remember when it premiered, it was shown at night as a lead-in for the series.

Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes is pretty scary, mainly because it's little people in heavy prosthetics at night with creepy voices.

I wish they rereleased the full series of books with original covers. I'd buy one a week. I'm on a kick right now reading books from my teens. There is this one that I can't remember the title to. It had a sweet cover, with a dragon attacking some people at a campsite, and the plot involved this girl who went undercover as a knight to kill a dragon. It had a really generic name, which is why its so hard to remember.

My all time favorite was always The Beast from the East. I still have a copy, got one from a friend for my 21st b-day, haha.

Ah, it wasn't a Goosebumps book, but it was released around the same time. I think I ordered it from a school book club. I loved those Scholastic book club flyers where you'd take the flyer home and beg your parents to order something - I was also a big fan of the Clue books:

Here's the book I was talking about, The Dragonslayers by Bruce Coville:

Lol, that's a pretty bad ass cover. I never read any clue books. I was more into Sci-fi as a kid. One of my all time favorites was Ender's Game, pretty interesting that the recently released a film for it. I saw the trailer for it 1 month after i had recommended the book to my wife, strange stuff.

I had to read Ender's Game for an English class in high school. I remember liking the twists at the end. I'm not all that interested in seeing the movie.

Ah, it wasn't a Goosebumps book, but it was released around the same time.

You've brought back memories for me regarding Goosebumps' Knock off books series....Creepers?

What I found ironic that it was probably released before Goosebumps (it mentions the SNES at the beginning), or probably around the same time (the fad for Goosebumps here happened when the TV Series hit)...I still love Slappy the Dummy's mini series, but only ever watched the Third one in full. There was that other one with the Masks, was The Haunted Mask the one Barry mentioned the one I am thinking of? I am sure that had two books...

Either way, I wasn't into the books, but I WAS into the TV series.

The Haunted Mask was a one hour premiere for the series, and I believe it aired at night on FOX (rare for FOX's kid's programming to be shown at night) on Halloween weekend. R.L. Stein appeared at the intro and ending, sort of like the Crypt Keeper, but he didn't appear in any other episodes after that (unless you count him in the opening credits, but I think that's an actor).

The episode itself was one of the more creepy episodes of the series, with a mask that grew onto the wearers face, and these creepy floating other masks. The whole series is on Netflix, The Haunted Mask is sorted out of order in "season 5" which is actually all the two parters bundled together.

---

There was a gross out parody series called "Gooflumps" that traded scares for boogers, farts, pee, and barf. I read one as a kid and it was really fucking weird. Like... I felt like I was reading fetish porn due to the gratuitous use of gross out gags. I guess it was meant to make kids laugh, but when a book is all about farts and barfing... I have to wonder if the author was just getting off on writing about that stuff.

Interesting! I think he was an actor, the one who pretended to be him on every other episode.

That episode was pretty scary if I remember correctly...I was around 8 or 9 when I watched it...definitely spooky considering the guy who has those masks stated that they were his OWN faces. :\

Never got to watch the second one.

Never seen a parody to Goosebumps quite that close, but then again stuff like that isn't all that popular in the UK (Sexual gags usually are. <_<).

I wish I knew the "other" scary book series I read, as it was really awesome when I read it, and wasn't like Goosebumps in some way...it went into some detail about the protagonists emotions of him passing out and stuff and entering this ghost like world.

Saw R.I.P.D last night on VOD.

Oh, boy... Now I understand why it was a a flop and died a quick death at the box office. The CG, for one. My God, I've seen movies with terrible CG but this one is the ultimate winner. The story is TV quality at best. This might have worked as a pilot to some new sci-fi show, comedy is bland. And Jeff Bridges never shuts up! I feel bad for Renolds, Green Lantern was flawed and he tried his best, but he didn't deserve this movie.

^Having both that and Turbo come out on the same day and bomb isn't good for Ryan Reynolds. If that Deadpool movie is still in production, I'm wondering if the filmmakers will either replace Ryan, lower the budget by a lot, or something else?

YES! It was this one! Only the cover I had was a Teenaged Boy frightened with a Teacher behind him as a ghost!

and in regards to Green Lantern, I definitely enjoyed that Film, although I do feel as if the ending was a cop-out.

@Nameless24

Deadpool is never gonna happen. Kick Ass 2's box office performance will make studios back out of any non PG-13 Superhero movie even with something as silly as Deadpool. Or Lobo.
