That's why us older SEGA folk who remember how things really were back in the day need to speak up now! Otherwise we'll have fanboys rewriting history. Already people are trying to paint this picture that Sonic 1 in 1991 wasn't all that impressive and didn't stack up against Nintendo at the time. :O
It's actually really cool in the VF scene around here now. I introduced VF to a lot of people who had never played it before, or who are younger than me. For many of them VF5:FS is their first experience with the game, or sometimes only VF:Evo.
Explaining how amazing VF1 & 2 were at the time, and the impact they made is really fun. Telling them that when VF2 (and especially VF3) were released, they were the most amazing things anyone had ever seen. The graphics were absolutely unmatched by anything.
Not to mention telling them how huge VF2 was in Japan, showing them the Anime, music videos, comics etc that spawned from it. It's really cool. There's even a player who used to be a gun back in the arcade, playing the old VF2 machine and playing in tournaments back in the 90's.
