RIP Rieko Kodama







Rieko Kodama, also known as Phoenix Rie, has passed away.
She was a major designer for the Phantasy Star series, directing IV, and produced several games including Altered Beast, Phantasy Star IV, Alex the Kidd, Sonic 1, and Skies of Arcadia.
She will be greatly missed.

Yeah, this one hurts man. I'm glad to hear you feel the same way.
Man, I just hope these legendary creators realize how much some random people around the world appreciate their work. And that they get some satisfaction from it, cus they really deserve it.

Yeah, language barrier sometimes prevent these creators from knowing opinion from many people around the world.
At least some of the appreciations were managed to be talked by SEGA Europe back then when they were doing interview with Reiko Kodama.

The SEGA AGES series was Kodama’s last project at SEGA.

In a bittersweet moment, Kodama ended her interview with Famitsu remarking “This might upset some people, but I work on each as though it were the last thing I did with my life”.
Kodama continued, saying “If I didn’t actually do it that way, I wouldn’t be able to make something as full of heart as these. And I really have worked on all of them as though they were my last project.”

SEGA Announces Financial Results With Sales Growth YoY & Profit Decline;
Project Sekai / Hatsune Miku : Colorful Stage, PSO2 NGS, and Net Mahjong MJ are still Top F2P Sellers

We learn that sales for the whole company were 150 billion yen, up year-on-year, while operating income was 9.5 billion yen, down year-on-year.
Looking at the Entertainment Contents Business, which includes games, sales were 116.6 billion yen, up year-on-year, while operating income was 13.8 billion yen, down year-on-year.
It’s worth mentioning that Sega still predicts growth in both sales and operating income for the full fiscal year.
