It's just to me, it feels like Sonic Team are making changes to the continuity and I'm not too comfortable with it.
- Since 1995, Amy Rose has been openly honest about her love for Sonic. But since 2019 she's behaving like they're just friends or secret crush. This feels less like a retcon and more of an obvious lie of a rewrite.
- While SXSG will introduce brand-new content known as "Shadow Generations", I've heard "Sonic Generations" in SXSG will have changes in dialogue and character models. Amy Rose adoration for Sonic will be removed and Rouge's open-back cat-suit will be concealed.
- If Maria Robotnik is resurrected, that would go to show death is just inconsequential in the series. That characters like Tikal, Gamma or Emerl may return simply because dead characters aren't marketable.
If I am right about these points, I would take it that Sonic Team are pandering for Gen Z-A audience over the fandom as a whole. While I won't quit being a Sonic fan over it, I would feel exorcised, and it would no longer be the Sonic series I grew up with.
As for me, it's always no longer be the Sonic series I grew up with after 1999.
I grew up with Mega Drive Sonic, Archie Sonic, and DIC Sonic.
Dreamcast Sonic and what's happened after that was when I already in college.
I don't mind any change to Sonic since they've got to attract new fans anyway.
They can't always rely just to old Sonic fans.
As long as the change is just meant to attract Gen Z-A, not just because of DEI pressure or just to please some loud and vocal influencers on Twitter.
Both of my sons are Gen Z-A and while they still love playing Mega Drive Sonic games they don't like Archie Sonic and DIC Sonic.
They aren't from my generations so I understand that.
