Playing devil's advocate here ... in Boom and in the movie it's just a combat strategy where Shadow views Tails as the "support" member of Team Sonic. Because Tails possesses a high IQ, flight capabilities, and creates gadgets, he is an essential asset. Shadow takes him out first to neutralize the biggest strategic threat. In Sonic X, to be fair Tails tried to attack him first. Even if it's to protect Cosmo, an attack is still an attack.

I see. But wasn't there still heavy suspicion on Argentina?

Yes, but not because of a friendship with Messi. It's bigger than that. Argentina's national football team during the World Cup was already heavily criticized due to a mix of perceived arrogance, historical controversies, fan behavior (some supporters were caught on viral streams making monkey gestures and telling Black influencers to "cry at the zoo" during matches against Cape Verde and Egypt), and a suspect of favoritism from FIFA and match officials. Messi’s massive global fanbase from around the world actually was trying so hard to counterbalance this negative sentiment but it's kinda hard to escape from the team's polarizing reputation.

I didn't think to wait at the time.

That's good for SEGA though if you bought it right away. I think the reason why Nintendo games sales number always high since the very first beginning is because fans always bought the game right away after release. No waiting for high discount since Nintendo never gave them any. They're really succeeded in creating that ecosystem.

Back then I could play this kind of machine game for hours but right now I doubt if I could stay playing it for even an hour.
I simply never played a pinball game like it before.

You don't have to buy SXSG at full price, later it would be a sale at 50% off sale where the price is exactly what you wanted to be. It's not a Nintendo game where they rarely have a discount.
I didn't think to wait at the time.

Things always go back to normal because humankind (or at least some of them ... who controls the world) learned to adapt (or take advantage of it).
yeah. So how bad will it be when the AI bubble pops? I imagine it will affect the economy, but given we're already enduring inflation, would it just be for better or for worse?

Only rich kid have charger here back then.
I wasn't that rich, but saved me money on batteries.
I guess Youtube with its live streaming news channel really changes how television media worked. I watch them there now since unlike in television, they almost had no running ads there.
BBC does have YouTube channels. I dunno if they enforce TV licence for people to watch them live. It mostly applies to their BBCIPlayer, their own online streaming service.

Yeah, this is a kind of game where it's more fun to play with friends.

Just like Virtua Fighter, Virtua Striker franchise was built specifically for arcades (running on hardware like Model 2, Model 3, and NAOMI) rather than standard home console development.
That's why it was abandoned when arcade games started to decline. They make more money in arcade version, a lot compared to console versions.
For console games, now it's hard to make a football game to compete with EA because of exclusive their licensing deals, massive budgets, and brand power. EA has too much power in that area.

But it's also the other way around in football management game.
Football Manager franchise has decades of database advantage since Sports Interactive has spent over 30 years refining a vast network of real-life scouts globally, a scale no new entrant can easily replicate.
Their database remains unmatched and unchallenged in the industry.

Why Football Manager Has No Competition

But aren't EA terrible?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-LE0ycgkBQ

Even if Virtua Striker, along with all the Virtua games, were made for arcades, their console/PC ports were still good in their own rights. So just because EA has the lead of football games doesn't mean Virtua Striker wouldn't stand a chance.

Take Virtua Fighter for example. It's major competitors are Tekken, Dead or Alive and Street Fighter. But Sega still made ports of these arcade games to console and eventually PC.

Other than that, Virtua Strike has more brand-recognition than "EA Sports FC", I had to Google the name because it was that forgettable to me. Even if EA has the higher budget, both Sega fans and Football fans would appreciate choice. Hell, having the "Sonic FC" be a reoccuring thing for each Virtua Striker game would really set it apart from EA Sport FC.

Other than that, given Sega produces Football Manager, I wouldn't be against Virtua Striker reusing assets from Football Manager. Even if someone with a keen-eye noticed a new Virtua Striker game recycled from Football Manager, as long as Virtua Striker carries the gameplay it has, that's what matters.
