About the "money in the bank" Topic
« on: May 11, 2014, 10:10:51 pm »
Hi, I am new at segabits. this is going to be my first topic, is about a very interesting one in my opinion, about the financial condition of some companies including Sega-Sammy. The thing is that i have a doubt about how money they approximately have in the bank and i wrote appoximately because i think is imposible to know this for us the fans. (mere mortals XD). For example, I Remenber that "Fact" to many people, that Capcom have 152 millons in the bank and to be honest i did not believe that number at first, but because i am curious i read a lot of financials reports of Capcom and i found out that that number came from "Net Cash on Historical Basis" from 2013 that Capcom Wrote on their anual report of 2013. I am not sure what that mean but i Believe that is not the money that Capcom have in the bank as many people said, I think that number is another tipe of fact. If any of you guys know more or is not agree with me please let me know because there is a possibility that i made a mistake in reading. Now, lets go the core of this topic, as far as i investigate the number that get close to know how much money the companies have is in the "Consolidated Cash Flows" or "cash and cash equivalents at end of period" of their reports, and with that here are the numbers that some companies (Japanese ones) gave in their last reports:

Nintendo: 341.266 Billons Y. (3.347 Millons Dolars)
Sega-Sammy:  202.741 BY. (1.988 MD)
Bandai-Namco: 134.666 BY. (1.321 MD)
Konami: 50.024 BY. (490 MD)
Capcom: 29.7 BY. (291 MD)

These are only a few i found out, i am not sure what these numbers represent but maybe can give us an idea about how SEGA and other corporations are doing. Again please let me know what you think i want to learn as much as possible and nice to meet you all.

It's considered operating revenue (ie: how much cash the company has on hand after satisfying financial obligations to employees, creditors, etc.). As a publicly traded company, Sega-Sammy is required to publish this information quarterly. The numbers have to accurate or they'll be fined.

Operating revenue is then combined with the sum total of the company's other assets to help determine its "net worth." These assets include but are not limited to merchandise, intellectual property, investments, real estate, etc. Debts are also a factor.

What you're thinking about is cash reserves, many companies have them (Apple's is close to $200 billion at one point, not sure if that's the case still) to support either for a large scale investment (Purchasing goods, companies, expansion) or for protection against an uncertain financial climate.

SEGA Sammy Group since it's formation have been regularly generating close to $300 mil - $500 mil every fiscal year, this allows them to put money aside to protect them from troubled times ahead.

The companies you listed all have been in good financial health recently which is why they have such large abundance of cash.
