I read an article about it a while back on Edge online that was describing the technique they're using for facial animation.  They are using video footage of actors' faces which is shot from 32 angles simultaneously.  The author said it totally solves the "uncanny valley" aspect of almost-realistic but somehow grotesquely fake appearance of most attempting-to-be-realistic CG.
