This game is an original implementation of the well known chess rooks puzzle. The chess rooks puzzle is a variation of the well known eight queens puzzle game with rooks used instead of queens. The eight queens puzzle was first published in 1848 by Max Bezzel. A generalisation of the eight queens puzzle , to an n by n sized chessboard, for some value n, has also been known and studied since the 19th century.

In the chess rooks puzzle, which is a one player game, game you are given an n by n sized chessboard, for some value n, and n rooks. To solve the puzzle you must arrange the rooks so they are all on used on the board and none of the rook capture any other rook. A rook is captured in some straight line according to the rules of chess.

So the game design is not an original idea-as it is already a known chess puzzle game that has been played for over a hundred years-but the Sega Master System implementation is an original implementation and includes a novel feedback artificial intelligence. The Master System game is an implementation of this old known game where n is equal to 16 (i.e. a 16 by 16 chessboard).
