Dreamcast Collection now available for PC Digital Download
« on: March 04, 2011, 10:50:34 am »
A digital download version of the Dreamcast Collection finally became available for the PC.
So far it's only available on Gamersgate, but shouldn't be too long until other digital services get it as well. EDIT: They're now available on Direct2Drive and Steam as well.
All 4 games are also being sold separately, so, if someone is only interested in one of the games, that person doesn't have to buy the full collection.

It plays and looks great. I've got it running at max resolution in widescreen. No input lag at all.
There are a few quirks though.
If you go to the options screen in the game, you won't be able to back out of it. And there are a few points in the game (between levels, some menu screens) where you'll have to hit the enter key to proceed.
When I beat the first level, the screen just stayed black.

It's still an amazing game though. And at $8.99, it's a great price.

Did you have any save issues? Checking on the Steam forums, looks like everyone that bought any of these Dreamcast ports through Steam can't save without doing a workaround (me included, but in my case it's Sonic Adventure).

The workaround is creating a SEGA/"Game Name" folder in the Documents folder, and putting the config.ini file inside the "Game Name" folder.

Sure enough. It's not saving at all :(.
I'll try the workaround.

Edit: The workaround not only fixed the saving issues, but the locking up ones as well.

"ChrisD" from Valve made an update today to fix the save issues, he's also trying to figure out how the configuration application interacts with the config.ini file, but so far he had no success with it.

It's funny that it is someone from Valve that is trying to fix these issues, instead of someone from SEGA. ._.

Looks like the update didn't fix the issue. Tried downloading SADX to my laptop, it still didn't save.
But looks like SEGA is possibly going to do something about these games issues.

Basically a few Steam users opened tickets at SEGA's support page, one of them got an answer about some issues specific to Space Channel 5, in the answer SEGA just asked for the DXDiag.txt file.
The user then complained that "he didn't want to do the generic tech support run-around where they keep trying to insist the problems are on his end", SEGA responded this:
