Sega goes hollywood

Sega with another company called Hakuhodo has created a new company called Stories whose sole intention is to create film content from various japanese ip this includes games and get them produced by hollywood writers and directors.


If people are wondering what does this mean, its kind of similar to what Marvel comics did by basically setting up their own film studio company, however unlike Marvel,this company is using a variety of sources to option rights for films and not just ip that they or Sega owns,IE don't expect to see a Sonic film or another HOTD movie or Shinobi straightaway.

In my humble opinion its about time, for the main reason that prehaps now that a video game based movie may be made properly and treat the source material with some respect now that an actual video game company has actually invested in creating a film studio to do it. of course time will tell. As some of you know its not the first time sega has flirted with hollywood ideas either but it seems sega's old age quest to become a massive entetainment company still lives on.

Knowing Sega the new company may probably stay away from Sega properties altogether considering how the other Sega subsidiaries operate. But this may be a good thing, like that Bayonetta movie may get released through this company

Yeah I suspect Sega will (annoyingly) not use many if any of their properties...Such a shame. I think a CGI movie for Sonic is really what the doctor ordered right about now.

And as Joe said, that rumoured Bayonetta movie would probably go down well. Might be a trashy marvel hero like movie but hey it would be good publicity.

I really don't know about any sort of Sonic movie, lol, especially one written by anyone at SEGA. Sonic can carry a decent storyline, even a great one if last week's Sonic comic was any proof, but I'm not sure the video game form of Sonic could really do it. I honestly don't look at Sonic Colors or Generations and think "Yeah, they could make a movie out of this".

A Panzer Dragoon movie would be totally epic, though, live action or CGI. It's got a great world and some epic set pieces, and the storyline is vague enough that any talented director could take a movie based on it, honor the source material and make it their own. I mean, can you imagine the massive battle  ship scene from Orta in a movie? That'd be fucking epic. Lord of the Rings on flying machines, bitches.

Yeah, too bad they'll more than likely make a movie out of some japan exclusive sega franchise that nobody in the west cares about.

But adressing Sharky's point,i meant that this CGI movie of Bayonetta being made will most likely be translated over here by this company using some big name script writer and a bunch of hollywood stars doing the voice overs like they do with the Miyazaki Studio ghibli stuff.

Also if they used their brains they may also release TMS's animated films using the same process as well. But it seems that if anything the focus is to make them in hollywood rather than doing a bit of both.
