Blue Stinger
« on: December 31, 2010, 01:14:47 pm »
I notice Wilhelm is playing Blue Stinger, it is a Dreamcast classic those who have played the game have compared it to HEAD HUNTER, and even found it better.

Also the game is a classic cause it has Sonic The Hedgehog Alumni Ryan Drummond voicing the titular character. I personally couldn't get into the game because of the games graphical issues.

The Protagonist has abnormally large feet, and his walking movements are incredibly awkward, one day I might try ILLBLEED thoug.

Wilhelm I read in your sig that your currently playing it, please share your experience.

It's a classic in my opinion. I always watched my brother play it and it had a really unique style for a survival horror game. I played it a few months ago after burning a copy again(last one became unreadable long time ago) and I kinda noticed that the controls were off. The way the character moved was werid as if he could never run in a straight line. I still love the game, the zombies/monsters look really scary and it's still a very good game to this day.

I soon stopped playing when I was chilling in a room in the game while looking in 1st person view. When I turned around a bit this creature was so close to me that I was startled in such a nasty way. I and switched of my DC. My little brother laughed his ass off.

 Yeah I know, I'm a puss :P

I hated the game when I rented it, when I first got the DC. It slowly grew on me.

Blue Stinger is a classic game , that was sadly killed inthe West with the terrible change in the Camera system.

Love the game (though it has a million flaws) but the Christmas Music, bosses ,massive explosions along with the Star Wars like Lightsabers make this game  simply fabulous

This is literally the only game left on the Dreamcast that I have never played but have always been kind of interested in.

I would like to hear more on it. Not in a rush to play it though.

My apologizes! I didn't even notice this til just now ahaha!

The games alright, first impression it gave me was a crappy low-budget game, but after about an 20 minutes in I found myself enjoying it. The music's a little annoying tho, and the US version has this really crappy camera system going on that keeps the camera behind you like a platformer, ruins the survival horror experience.
The PAL and JP version apparently has a system similar to Dino Crisis and Resident Evil series... which may be able to give you a nice scare. Had the graphics not been so cartoonish like I see it...

Enemies when you kill them shot out coins everywhere which you use to buy food, ammo and guns...
So you never really have to worry about health or ammo... Which really kills the survival part of the game.

The game doesn't really give details on what to do. If you find yourself doing a side mission you usually only have 20 minutes to finish it, and you haven't the slighest clue what to do. It's mostly trial and error with that.
The cut scenes are cheesy, which I personally enjoy. But you can't skip them so if you die (assuming you can die, I've never came close) you'd be stuck listening to them again and they do take awhile...

Combat is fairly simple, you face the direction of the enemy and you push the r trigger to shoot, it auto fires at the bad guy, and if your out of ammo (near the beginning you will be) you use Close Range attack using the X button, further on the game you get neat little weapons to substitute your hands. Like a Ray Sword which reminds me of Mega Man in a way..

You can play as two guys, and switch whenever you feel it's nessessary
One guy can do close range, and use some guns.
While the other guy can use heavy guns like Missle Launchers and stuff but can't use closerange weapons but can defend against attacks using X.
Tho I've yet to use the other guy cause theres no need for it..

The only challenge I've had so far is finding what to do in a side mission
And the whole point of a side mission is to get special guns, which you later on can buy anyways.
And considering monsters respawn once you leave the room, you can grind for money so all side-missions do is give you the gun a lil early...
All in all, I give it 7/10 and I'm being very relaxed on the rating..
I've been having fun, I find it more an Action/Adventure than Survival Horror tho.

If your looking for a scare, I'd recommend Dino Crisis.

@Wilhelm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climax_Entertainment

Time Stalkers is actually a spin off of Shining Series only, featuring many of the same developers, I couldn't stand the low budget voice acting (read no voice acting), it pissed me off and I returned the game.
