New Sega Style PS3 2D pad from Hori, looks cool.
« on: February 21, 2010, 11:34:17 am »

$34.99 March 18.

I'm thinking this might be the pad for Sonic 4 and SSFIV.

SNES dpad and Saturn button layout, might be best of both worlds.

Why does it look uglier and cost more than the Saturn pad when it first came out?

Silverslug, PS3 question..

Does a USB controller plugged into any of the USB ports on a PS3 always default to controller "1", assigning sixaxis/DS3 controller "2"?

That is my experience and is damn annoying.  Is there any setting adjustment around that?

Yeah, I don't use a USB controller so I would not know really. Have you went into the XMB menu and looked at the 'assign controller' portion?

They did the d-pad wrong, though !

And assigning the controllers only takes a moment.

Well, when I leave the Saturn USB plugged in it auto-detects it as controller "1" everytime the system is started.  Then whenever I want to play a game with DS3 I have to reassign it to controller 1.  If you switch back and forth it get really annoying.

Dpad?  I'm curious to try it SNES style.  With the lastest Saturn USB's, they were great for fireballs, but seemed to have some play that would too easily produce shoryuken's whenever I do the super hadoken motion.

You should be utterly ashamed of yourself, the Sega Saturn D-Pad is the greatest that money can buy! The fact that this one is using something else is a dissapointment.

You might be better off getting one of those MadCatz fightpads, they aren't a patch on the saturn either, but they look similar to that and might actually be a bit cheaper. I really don't lke the look of that D-pad either to be honest. :|

It is true, the SEGA Saturn pad D-Pad is the pinnacle of D-Pads.

Hori needs to learn design, the Saturn pad still looks superior.

Like I said, having some trouble with the latest Chinese Saturn USB batch..  I hadn't used a SNES dpad for SF in ages and I was kind of the fence as to maybe that would be a good solution.

Double fireball motion on the Chinese Saturn USB's more often then not produces a shoryuken.  It is maddening and why I considered trying SNES style.  I even considered modifying the dpad in some way.

^You can't compare the modern chinese knock-offs to the OG pads mang. They may looks similar, but I doubt they match up to the original. Is it an officially branded Sega product, or just a 'Sega style' pad?

Looks can be decieving, like I said, the MadCatz pad looked exactly like a saturn one, but turned out to be no-where near as good.

I know, I wasn't. Like I said... I'm having a problem with the Chinese batch, there is no practical way (unless you have an electronics engineering degree) to get an original pad working on a PS3.  So, you understand my dilemma..

This is the solution:

SEGA REMAKE THE ORIGINAL SATURN PAD WIRELESS (actually there was one once using old wireless tech) AND SELL IT WITH THE SONIC 4 LAUNCH!!!

It's not wireless, but they kind of re-released it so.
