AM2's Next Project: Completely baseless speculation ahoy!
« on: August 03, 2012, 10:47:45 pm »
So word on the street is that AM2 is currently working on a new project after the fabulous Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown has hit consoles.

We don't know any details yet, but I'm interested in hearing from fellow Segabitters about what they think it might be, what you would like it to be and the like.

I guess Virtua Fighter 6 is an obvious possible option, but I think they might leave Final Showdown to grow a little before they unveil a new game this soon. I personally hope they leave VF for at least a little while.

Something I would love to see in terms of fighting games is another Fighting Vipers. It's been yonks since the last game, and it would be really cool to see another one make an appearance. Follow the same plan as Final Showdown with an arcade release and then digital release. I would love to see what they could do with FV after all these years.

Apart from that, what else could be on the cards? A new racing game? New Afterburner? Perhaps that fabled Outrun JRPG that will be exclusive to 3DS?

I'd love to see another console title with some depth, like an rpg. Or a sequel to an old beloved ip. Would be great to see a big name ip sequel given a disc release. I know SEGA wants to focus on big name IPs for disc releases, so why not a new am2 game revisiting a classic?

New OutRun or AfterBurner is what I hope for...as long as they hit consoles/PCs eventually!
VF6 makes the most sense though.

I'm having my hopes high for a new Fighting Vipers sequel. I played both the first two games and enjoyed every moment of it with the exception of B.M. They can surely add some new elements and evolve the game like they did with Virtua Fighter. Customizing your favorite characters armor would be cool.

SEGA should give them the opportunity to work on a big scale console game again... i mean seriously! limiting your best team to make "only" arcade titles "in this era" is some kind of a waste.
AM2 need to start shifting to console business slowly as the videogame category in arcade business keeps shrinking even in Japan while the card & medal based games are taking place in top.

more likely though it's just VF6 & another arcade title (i am guessing Outrun 3) Outrun 2 was a very successful game for them and the technology available in the next two years will definitely help them to shape up a worthy sequel.

I hope its OutRun 3... I still play OutRun 2006 C2C to this day.
But didn't SEGA lose the Ferrari license?

Indeed, a new console based game from AM2 would be amazing. I got the feeling that Sega's strategy for established IPs meant only stuff from the last few years, so I didn't think of them reviving an older IP but that would be cool.

I actually think VF6 would be a less likely candidate for the immediate future. I think they'll let VF5 develop a little bit first, especially seeing as how they only just released it on consoles and this has been the third iteration of 5. I get the feeling VF6 is on the way somewhere, but they'll have something else in the meantime.

Wasn't Last Bronx an AM3 title? Not that AM2 couldn't work on a sequel or re-release though.

It's not really that they've permanently lost the license.  It's just that the license they had for the PSN/XBLA releases expired.  I'm sure they can attain a new license if they do another Out Run.

But are we sure that AM2 is not just working on another digital release? I know people will get into a frenzy for Border Break heh. Perhaps another update to Border Break is more likely though...

A new major IP would be nice. Don't think AM2 has dished out of those since the Clinton administration.
