Yakuza 1 - 3, still worth playing?

Recently got a ps3 so I'm slowly playing the sega exclusives that came out on it, and so I started playing Yakuza 4.

Awesome Game!! I'm totally sucked in now. Excellent story telling.

My question, since this game has quite a bit of polish and assuming Y5 will have even more, is playing 1-3 still worth it?

Am I missing anything big, anything critical either to the overall plot, or was perhaps the gameplay better in the older ones?

and fo your info yakuza 1 and 2 are the best. so if ur down with 4 then 1 and 2 will make you so happy that you will buy 50 lollypops and lick them without even beinng aware that you actually had 50

this game is really good. it is used by many to dimm their hunger of shen mue.

There is a Theatre Mode in Y4 where you can catch up on all the events of previous games too.

I think Yakuza 1 and 2 are the best honestly. Yakuza 3 was awesome because it was the first time playing that series in "HD", but Yakuza 4 was kind of....... too much of the same?

In the car world there are companies who reinvent every model every few years, and then there's Porsche. Porsche have been making the 911 since 1963 and they have always just changed it slightly every 2 years or so. That being said the original 911 is world's apart from the one being made today, but compare any two back-toback models and they're virtually indistinguishable from one another.

Yakuza is like the 911. Maybe they change a couple of things here and there, but you're essentially buying the same thing.

Alright. Kind of off base car analogy. Should probably go to work and not be on Segabits at 6 am.

but also the story line of yakuza 1 and 2 seem deeper. u got that shenmue feeling. and that dude is better in yakuza 1 and 2 more serious and a good tough character.

as for 3 and 4 there are to much woman alike metrosexual charactes. its a good game still but im not down with that.

thats why i dont like phantasy star universe. come on seriously wearing a tshirt and actually see a navel(button belly) whatever. i mean if a girl does that ok. but a man?

@Semmie - I'm sorry, but your posts do anything but. Keeping the forum alive? Since when is the forum dead? Please stop thinking you're some kind of forum hero, or that making stupid posts (which you openly just admitted to making) help the forums in some way. If somebody makes a topic, and you don't have something worthwhile to contribute, then don't contribute. Better to say nothing than to say something stupid. It's just insulting to the community as a whole, and insulting to myself and the other mods who have to clean up the "stupid posts".

I guess videogame characters are always metrosexual, since their appearance is always good (even when handing out the pain in the mean streets of Japan).. But Yakuza characters have a lot of fashion-awareness. It's funny you mention it, since it's actually something I enjoyed in Y4.

Both Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star's art direction is edgy futuristic. Not realistic badass. You can't compare both.

Back to talking about Yakuza, not semmie.



Anyway, I'd say 1-3 are well worth playing, since Yakuza has a strong emphasis on story. It's like, the first two Harry Potter books are sort of childish, but they're essential to getting the whole story. Or with Shenmue, Shenmue II is a big improvement but the first is still a must play.

However, Yakuza 1 does have the english dub, so if you can get over that then it's worth playing. Yakuza 2 is awesome.
