Heaps of really great non-Sega games to list for me. Some of my absolute faves are;
- Deus Ex
One of the best games I've ever played, brilliant gameplay with freedom to play the game any way you want, one of the few games I can think of where you can finish the game without killing anyone. The story is also brilliant and creates a fantastic Cyber-punk world. Everyone should at least try this game.
- Grim Fandango
Probably my favourite LucasArts adventure games (Although I also love Monkey Island) the concept and art direction of this game is some of the best I've ever seen, and I think if someone made a good movie adaption from this game, it would be my favourite movie ever. Great puzzles and characters top everything off nicely.
- Age of Empires II: Age of Kings
My absolute favourite RTS game, lots of units, lots of factions, fun gameplay and some of the best 2D graphics I've ever seen. The single player mode in particular was brilliant, with 6 of the best campaigns i've ever played in any RTS games. THe Conquerors expansion pack was even better.
- Garou: Mark of the Wolves
Just one of the best fighters I've ever played.
- Mafia
The 1930's criminal world this game created is flawless, the cars, the buildings the clothes the characters, it's all perfect. The gameplay is brilliant, with fantastic shootouts and car chases, all adhering closely to realism (reload with bullets still in the clip, and you'll lose those bullets. Crash too hard, and you'll die). The story takes all the best parts of the best Mafia moves and molds it together into a fantastic game.
- Project Gotham Racing 2
Favourite racing game I've played. The number of cars, variety of challenges, and great tracks/locations all add up to my favourite.
- Splinter Cell
Loved all the first three games (Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory), the graphics were mind blowing for the time, the gameplay was gripping fun and overall it was just so satisfying to drop through a window, crawl across the cieling on a water pipe undetected, then steal some top secret files from a computer before making a stealthy escape.
- Soul Caliber (Dreamcast)
Best home port of a fighter I've ever played. It doesn't have the depth/balance of Virtua Fighter, but as a total game package, no fighter beats this one IMO. The Quest mode is enourmous and amazingly fun, the graphics were incredible, the music is amazing, and there was so much to unlock and do in the game I just fell in love with it.
