It's still next year's December.
You know Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (an AAA game) released last year, and right now it's already got 75% OFF sale on Steam (until October 24, 2025).

Sure, but Nintendo and Rockstar are setting the bar as well as the price on how much to sell AAA games.

You can't get Nintendo on any other platform so they can control their sales.
And in term of quantities, Rockstar aren't as productive as SEGA.
They don't have franchises as many as SEGA's.

RIP Paul Williams, the former CEO of SEGA Amusements International and arcade games industry pioneer.

Quote
It is with deep respect, admiration, and sadness that Sega Amusements International announces the passing of Paul Williams on 14th October 2025, following a period of illness. A globally known and highly respected figure in the amusement industry, he was the driving force behind the company he led for more than two decades.
We are deeply thankful for Paul’s nearly 30 years of service and unwavering dedication. During his tenure, Paul transformed Sega Amusements International from a small team of 12, importing Japanese amusement games, into a leading global player in the Amusement Games industry. He was instrumental in establishing our manufacturing, R&D and software capabilities, and in building key divisions including Spares, Prize and Third-Party Development. His leadership drove the 2015 rebrand to Sega Amusements International Ltd., and in March 2021, he secured the company’s acquisition through a management buyout from SEGA Japan – a decisive step that safeguarded the company’s independent future. Since then, the business has expanded significantly, strengthened its operations, enhanced its product portfolio and delivered strong commercial performance – a testament to Paul’s vision and ...

You can't get Nintendo on any other platform so they can control their sales.
And in term of quantities, Rockstar aren't as productive as SEGA.
They don't have franchises as many as SEGA's.
But still, Rockstar Games wants to charge a ludicrous amount for their upcoming Grand Theft Auto game under the belief it's AAA quality warrants it. But making it so damn high would mean only the slightly-rich could afford it. Fans are upset about this and believe all games should have a maximum price to sell at, such as £60-70 or so.

The fact Nintendo are selling their games so expensively only gives Rockstar and other studios the impression that it's perfectly acceptable marketing to hike up your games prices if it's regarded AAA.

Rockstar Games relied their earning mostly from the games.
Unlike SEGA who got more money from merchs, licensing, and franchise colabs.
Rockstar don't have that.

Other example is Rovio.
They are like SEGA, most of their earning are from Angry Birds plushies, toys, and merchs, not from their games which only $1 each at that time.
When their merchs sales went down and fell by 43% during 2014, it affected big to them.
Rovio had to lay off 260 employees worldwide because of that eventhough sale for games was still good.
They then tried to make new earning by starting to micro transactions from their gamesbut it met with lot of backlashes.

Still, would you be willing to spend nearly a hundred on a brand-new game? Even if it was AAA?
