SEGA announces “End of Service” for Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 for Apple and Android devices

Quote
SEGA has announced an “End of Service” for the 2013 remasters of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, available on Apple and Android devices. The remasters got a lot of attention when revealed back in 2013, namely because prominent fan game developers Christian Whitehead (“Taxman”) and Simon Thomley (“Stealth”) were behind the remasters. The two would go on to develop Sonic Mania, which no doubt was a gig they earned thanks to their work on the 2013 remasters.
The remasters were so good that many (myself included) see them as the best way to play the games, even beating out their reissues in Sonic Origins and the M2 versions released on Nintendo platforms. Heck, they were named our favorite SEGA games of 2013! Fans might be having deja vu as ...

IDW Sonic Comics Unveil Sonic #87 Covers and Tease Road to 100 with New Villain and Silver-Blaze Adventure

Quote
IDW Publishing revealed exclusive previews in AIPT Comics' Super Sonic Monthly #4, unveiling three striking covers for Sonic the Hedgehog #87 and teases for the connected 'Road to 100' arc from issues #82 to #100.
The May 2026 issue introduces a shadowy new villain amid floating gem shards, green crystals, and stormy scenes, sparking fan guesses from Dr. Starline's return to cosmic horrors. Editors confirmed Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat star in issues #89-91 on their dimension-hopping quest, while issue #84 picks up after Sonic Frontiers and Surge and Kit explore heroism.
Other nods include possible Tangle-Espio team-ups as alliances shift toward the landmark 100th issue.

Basic Fun!/Arcade1Up show off a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog home arcade cabinet at Toy Fair 2026

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtrsvHvcejg&t=162s

Quote
Arcade1up, hot off of their recent acquisition by Basic Fun!, have come to the International Toy Fair 2026 in New York City to show off their latest home arcade cabinets releasing later this year. This includes a new Ms. Pac-Man cabinet with the usual Namco arcade classics and a new WWE Wrestlefest cabinet featuring that game and a few other classics by Technos Japan, but the most relevant for us is their 3rd and most recent collaboration with Sega (And probably their least exciting to date): a Sonic the Hedgehog arcade cabinet. This is an all-new original upright cabinet that, so far, features Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, and Sonic 3D Blast.
Despite these games having no prior history in arcade settings ...

Or may be Sonic doesn't want to pass through them since he got more Flickies to save.
Hm... he literally slam dunks himself into those rings. The flickies that follow vanish while he just hangs off the side of the ring.
Yes, they would look ugly from behind, that's why they changed it
But I don't mind the change. I like how they looked in the Dreamcast-era.

Not only is it bad enough item boxes have been phased out for wisps, I do not like how they look in the modern version though.

They look bland and plastic to me.
I thought Phantom Ruby has gone for good but clones ... who's capable to make such clones.
If Dr. Eggman overlooked the disposal of one Phantom Ruby prototype, perhaps there are more he missed?
Yes, and it's also Ash Wednesday night.

It marks the first day of Lent, so yeah.
Pancake Day was originally Shrove Tuesday. A day where Christians use up all their perishable ingrediants as pancakes in preperation for Lent.
It just became rather Americanized as Pancake Day.

Yeah, but you never see Sonic tried to jump into the ring right? He only throwed the flickies there.

Agree. The modern ones look like a crystal ball.

Oh, okay. That's a possibility.

America turned a preparation time for repentance, reflection, self-denial, and spiritual healing into a party. Why am I not surprised.

I couldn't find a gif, but Sonic just grabs onto the edge of the ring and loops round it when the flickies follow him through. Sonic just loops round and hangs there while the flickies vanish.

Even Crystal Balls have style. "Modern item boxes" just look like plastic capsules to me.

It could be the portal only worked if the one who jumped in wished to be transported.

Breaking a crystal ball doesn't feel cool though. What's the sound effect if it used it. Glass breaking?

Silver the Hedgehog Reads in Kingdom Valley Library Artwork

Quote
Sega's latest sonicpict illustration on Sonic Channel shows Silver poring over a book in the foggy ruins of Kingdom Valley's abandoned library, with vines on shelves and sunlight streaming in. The poetic caption describes it as a 'valley of books' where thoughts drift, capturing his earnest, knowledge-seeking side amid hovering pages. Fans adore the cozy scene, spotting details like a Solaris-emblazoned red book that ties to his backstory, while recent Silver artworks like his apple pie tinkering fuel excitement for more appearances.
