Even though a lot is riding on this show in terms of faith in the company, let's try to keep expectations low so that we'll be pleasantly surprised if anything cool looking does come from the big S.  I feel like Satomi and Nagoshi are setting us up for disappointment.

Hatsune Miku is getting a Quest Mode.

Pre-TGS is already off to a good start.

If he wants to appeal to a broader audience he needs to have the Yakuza team release games on more than 1 platform.

They already did, it was called Binary Domain and it bombed.

The only reason Yakuza remains exclusive is because Sony was the only console manufacturing willing to support the series. Neither Microsoft or Nintendo showed any willingness to promote the games.

Satomi just said one of the new games was to appeal to broader audience, I assume thats the Yakuza teams game. He can't turn around SEGA in 4 months, no CEO can.

Yeah, honestly it's going to take them a couple of years to fix the ship. Games take at least 2/3 years to develop after all.

Most Japanese companies. See Street Fighter V.
Come on now, everyone knows that the only reason SF V won't have a Xbone version is because Microsoft doesn't want Xbone-PS4 crossplay.

The only reason Yakuza remains exclusive is because Sony was the only console manufacturing willing to support the series. Neither Microsoft or Nintendo showed any willingness to promote the games.
But considering Valkriya Chronicles, there's still a chance for a PC release right ? (i'm not sure though considering that every Korean/Chinese boxart for Yakuza except Yakuza 0 has the "Only On Playstation" tag).

It will be a looong bumpy ride to fix SEGA, it is possible though.

I just hope it happens.

wasn't the reason also because (despite the attempt to a broader audience) there wasn't a huge draw? ranging from either character design or the lack of marketing awareness?

Though at this current time of the console generation (PS4/Xbone/Wii U), wouldn't securing/supporting exclusives from third parties be a real value to console makers?  Seems like a real opportunity for both parties to take advantage.

Edit: Ops yeah you're right, it's mostly the lack of market awareness. I went to preorder Binary Domain a couple of weeks from launch and the staff at the GAME shop looked at me in bemusement and told me they don't think they're stocking that game. Checked the system and indeed they were.

Tells you all you need to know, not even retailers knew the game existed.

The biggest problem with Binary Domain is the fact that it was a cover shooter released at a time where everyone was getting sick of cover shooters.

There is a lot of reasons that Binary Domain failed. One simple fact was that it had one of the worse 'reveal trailers' of all time:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VncNlfmZy6E

The game is suppose to be about teamwork and reveal trailer just doesn't seem to fit what he was describing before its initial reveal. Of course most people ignored the game right there.

Then they decided to push the stuff no one cared about. Voice commands? Its multiplayer? THats what SEGA showed to journalist and stuff and of course its the weakest points of the game.

Then they released this box art:
http://segabits.com/blog/2011/11/10/whats-wrong-with-binary-domains-box-art/

What where they thinking. Then it released around the same time as EA's Mass Effect 3, but with no marketing budget at all. Then they turn around and go "Why did it fail? It must be because Westerners hate Japanese games. Obviously."

How about western branches learn how to launch a fucking product right? Binary Domain is a prime example of SEGA of America and Europe looking out for their own direction they want to take the company and screwing up launching a Japanese developed title 'cuz, lol no market for it'. Its really sad.

Nah, I don't think it's a trend that will stick around. Maybe certain games in Japan only, but I'm sure we'll see plenty of multiplat like FF15 and KH3.

It will depend on how the games perform on Xbox One. Personally I have no interest in the system, but sure why not?

well Shenmue 3 is also going to be PS4 and PC.  Also, from my understanding most major upcoming Xbox One exclusives (Scalebound, Crackdown 3, etc.) don't have a PC release planned, which is a little odd, but I guess they want to sell the system.

The only reason Shenmue 3's going to the PC is because of  Kickstarter's clause which states that you must release the game on PC, if Sony decided to just give Yu Suzuki the dev money then the game would be a PS4 exclusive.

PC + PS4 seems to be the future.

Mobile is the future of SEGA Japan, bar one of 2 titles

Most Japanese corps will have their biggest games being multi bar the odd lock out deal here and there. Given that unlike SF SEGA Japan can hardy boast a IP that sells 5 million copies plus on the world stage . Then locking all your games on one platform is utter maddness. Can understand it for a niche IP like Project Diva where is all for Japan . But for big Budget IP games it's got to be multi  to get the best sales in the USA and UK markets, unless that its a IP that already well established (like SF) Then you're able to do lock out deals as the fanbase is there

Maybe, maybe not but Dragon Quest Heroes and Builders are both Playstation exclusives. Most Japanese publishers are going to think about their home territory first. Of course they might just skip a Japanese Xbox One release but still have a Western release (Like Koei is doing with some licensed games) but having a Xbox One version isn't a guarantee.

Especially as publishers are looking closer and closer to tie up deals with console manufacturer. The only reason the likes of Capcom are still involved in console development is thanks to Sony and Microsoft. Major series like Sonic, Metal Gear, Resident Evil etc are obviously going to be multiplat, but the smaller more medium sized franchises like Persona, Yakuza, Toukiden, Tales of etc are all going to be Playstation family + PC.

I can think of far worse tbh . BD failed  imo more so for reasons like no PR push at the game launch (a must for a new IP) bringing it  out a at the end of the system life is hard , and it really should have had 4 player multi Co-Op online . Oh and yes the box Art was terrible :(

I really hope the team make a direct sequel or build on the game and just make a new IP that plays much the game but with a new title

I don't know, if they make a new IP that plays like Binary Domain it'll bomb simply because of the fact that it's a cover shooter in an age where everyone's sick of them, look at Spec Ops : The Line for example, that game has a great storyline and got a billion GOTYs but it bombed because it was an average cover shooter (also the game tried so hard to be a Modern Military Shooter it ended up driving away basically anyone with a half-decent gaming tastes).

Not completly related but it was the same executive (Masano Medea) that decided to "make million sellers on a global scale" in 2009 (with the help of Platinum Games), resulting into 3 years later with Binary Domain. And the same year it releases suddenly decide to shutdown western resources.

Its a theme with Sega Japan execs, they build something, but destroy it immadietly.

Like building 10 R&D studios for the Dreamcast launch, and scaling it back to 5 in 2003

Crazy people I tell ya.

Lets be real here, this is has nothing with Sega West at all. Its Sega Japan telling them to focus on fewer established IP before the plan took full effect. They cannibibalized it in the first place.
