Sega Match-3

https://eugenespacehead.itch.io/sega-match-3

Playing modern match-3 game not on phone screen is kinda outdated since swiping control is faster than using D-Pad and button but it's really fresh to see them on Genesis since I don't think it's been done before (not counting Columns series).
Added, thanks billybob.  :-D

Added Hang-On Jr. (port) for SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niXo0RTlGjs

Quote
Hang-On Jr. is a stripped down version of Hang-On made to run for Sega System E hardware.
Though the gameplay is largely the same, the courses are slightly different and there are huge cutbacks in terms of music and graphics.

Added Tyrian for SEGA 32X

Quote
Haroldo : A native Sega 32X adaptation of Tyrian 2.1 Episode I, built from the OpenTyrian source/format reference and locally converted Tyrian 2.1 data.

Github repo: https://github.com/haroldo-ok/noudar-32x

The output is a real .32x cartridge image for the Master SH-2, not an SDL cross-compile. It uses the 32X 8-bit packed-pixel framebuffer, ROM-resident converted data, fixed entity pools, a resident 68000 controller service, and interrupt-fed PWM sound. "

CHORDS! (SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive, PC) – Official Demo Trailer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9KhBG00l3g

Quote
It’s 20XX. The music industry has changed. AI is under suspicion. Creativity is supposed to be human again.

And Akio has just overslept.

CHORDS! is a comedy sci-fi point-and-click adventure following Akio and his robot cat Scamp as they attempt to take their band, Emeralds of Chaos, from local hopefuls to the ION World Battle of the Bands.

What starts as a simple attempt to enter a music competition soon spirals into break-ins, bizarre puzzles, suspicious technology, questionable decisions and a mystery that goes far beyond the stage.

Explore Synthetic City, meet an eccentric cast of characters, investigate your surroundings, collect and use items, solve puzzles and try to keep Akio out of trouble.

Scamp would like it formally noted that the last part is probably impossible.

🎸 A story-driven sci-fi comedy adventure
🐱 One sarcastic robotic cat
🎮 Classic point-and-click inspired gameplay
🧩 Puzzles, exploration and ridiculous solutions
🎵 A Battle of the Bands where something isn't quite right
🤖 A future where AI and human creativity have a complicated history
🏍️ And a Hyperbike that was probably a terrible financial decision

Can Emeralds of Chaos make it all the way to the top?

More importantly...

What the hell is really going on at ION Records?.

Wishlist / Follow CHORDS! now.

Okay! So, I spent quite a bit of time trawling github and found a number of projects I haven't seen before, some new, some old. I've put together a preliminary list, but I haven't thoroughly vetted it, so feel free to exclude at your discretion. I'll split this into posts grouped by system. Many are WIP, and not all projects include a playable ROM, some are "compile it yourself" deals. Did my best to make sure none were already listed here, but I may have missed the odd one:

------------
   SMS
------------

Arcade Volleyball

https://github.com/raphnet/arcadevolleyball

Quote
Arcade Volleyball is a simple volleyball game inspired by Pong. I remember playing it on a DOS PC, but this game was first made for the Commodore 64, and later for Amiga. This version was distributed on a floppy disk included with the Fall 1989 edition of the Compute!'s Amiga Resource magazine, as an executable accompanied with its source code.

This repository is a Sega Master System port based on the Amiga source code.

Arthur's Quest

https://github.com/haroldo-ok/arthurs-quest-sms

Quote
A port of Piers Bishop's Game Boy game Arthur's Quest (GBDK-2020 + hUGEDriver) to the Sega Master System, built with SDCC and devkitSMS (SMSlib), following the sega-master-system-devkitsms skill.

Conway's Game of Life

https://github.com/jflores82/sms_gameoflife

Quote
Conway's Game of Life - Sega Master System port.

This project is 100% human made, absolutely no AI of any kind was used for any part of the code, assets or documentation.

Game of Life (GoL) is a celullar automaton, zero-player game, developed by mathematian John Conway in 1970. The algorithm requires no proper input from the player, with the initial state determining how the game will evolve. Other than computation limits, there are no generational limit and there are no win conditions. It can achieve a stale condition where no evolution is possible.

Dragon Quest - Complete Quest Edition

https://github.com/haroldo-ok/dragons-quest-sms

You have a "Dragon Quest II" on the list, but I couldn't find the link for it (and forum search isn't working), so not sure if this is a different project or not.

Quote
A complete, playable native Sega Master System port of Dragon Quest 1, built from the data files of the JavaDragonQuest1 fan remake using the devkitSMS toolchain from the sega-master-system-skill.

Nero Adventure

https://github.com/flavio-rmc/sms-nero-adventure

Quote

Translated: Prototype of a homebrew game for Sega Master System, conceived as an unofficial prequel to Phantasy Star I. The campaign follows Nero before the events of the original game and takes place exclusively in original versions of Algol's already known mazes.

Pac-Man Master Museum

https://www.smspower.org/Homebrew/Pac-ManMasterMuseum-SMS

Quote
A port of the MSX beach volleyball game Peng Pong to the Sega Master System.

SMSHack: Dungeons of Doom

https://github.com/haroldo-ok/gbhack-sms

Quote
A Sega Master System port of GBHack — a NetHack-inspired roguelike originally written for the Game Boy Color.

Descend 15 procedurally generated dungeon levels, fight monsters, identify unknown potions and scrolls, keep a pet, rob (or pay) shopkeepers, and bring the Amulet of Yendor back to the surface.

Ultima III

https://github.com/haroldo-ok/ultima-3-sms

Quote
An early playable SMS port based on RetroSven/ult3gbc, built with SDCC and devkitSMS

ZEPTON SMS

https://github.com/haroldo-ok/zepton-fmv-sms

Quote
A Sega Master System port of REZ's PICO-8 voxel shmup ZEPTON (https://chiptune.itch.io/zepton), implemented as an FMV game: the voxel flyover is the original game's own renderer, recorded offline and streamed from ROM as simulation-indexed tile deltas (the smsvideo technique from haroldo-ok/sega-master-system-skill-for-claude).

Zona 0 MD

https://github.com/diegomtassis/md-zona-0

Quote
Sega Mega Drive / Genesis port written by diegomtassis using SGDK.

It's currently work in progress.

Zona 0 was a TopoSoft property. TopoSoft dissolved in 1994, hence it is not clear to me who is the owner of the Zona 0 rights. In any case, it's not me, and I assume Zona 0 rights belong to someone. The same applies to all the artwork in this port, which has been extracted directly from the original game. This port is free and is been built without TopoSoft permission.

A port of Hocus Pocus (Apogee / Moonlite Software, 1994) to the Sega 32X.

The ROM is a native SH-2 program: the original DOS assets are converted on the host into a flat, big-endian pack that is appended to the cartridge, and the game runs as 8bpp packed-pixel graphics straight out of the 32X framebuffer.

https://github.com/haroldo-ok/wave-rider-gp-32x

Quote
Sega saturn port by gameblabla (2023)

This is a quick an dirty port of Anarch Miloslav Ciz (drummyfish) for the Sega Saturn.

The hardware is actually not bad for doing software rendering, although the wide framebuffer can cause issues but we need to double buffer anyway...

This is still WIP as there is no music (but there are sound effects) but the game is already playable.

Quote

   Dreamcast

Celeste

https://github.com/Memorix101/ccleste-dreamcast

Quote
A portable Celeste Classic C source port for Sega Dreamcast

Lugaru

https://github.com/dressupgeekout/lugarudc

Quote
This repository holds the official development effort of the open source game Lugaru (and in particular of its HD version) for Linux, Mac OSX and Windows.

Developments from various forks have been integrated in the same code base in an attempt to get a unified game to further develop (e.g. with new features, new target platforms and new campaigns) and distribute.

This is the same game as the one distributed by Wolfire Games on Lugaru HD's website, though this repository contains some further developments which are not (yet) featured in the commercial version.

OpenCrossing

https://github.com/GabeConway/OpenCrossing-Dreamcast

Quote
A native Sega Dreamcast port of Animal Crossing (GameCube), built on the ACreTeam decompilation. Not an emulator — the decompiled game is recompiled for SH-4 and its GameCube graphics API is reimplemented on the PowerVR.

Sam and Max Hit the Road

https://github.com/KenzonHundredPower/Sam-and-Max-Hit-the-Road-for-Sega-Dreamcast

Quote
You're not dreaming (pun intended) Sam and Max Hit the Road is now ported to the Sega Dreamcast, and it's ported by me, using the 2026 version of ScummVM Dreamcast plain files, and Boot Dreams, I used the Steam version, uses keyboard and mouse, and can use the Sega Dreamcast controller, you can play it on flycast with any controller you have

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpOwp28sAYw

Tux Racer

https://github.com/GabeConway/tuxracer-dreamcast

Quote
A native Dreamcast port of Tux Racer 0.61 — the 2001 original, not a fork — running on KallistiOS and GLdc, with SDL removed entirely.

The two are almost exactly contemporary. Tux Racer shipped in January 2001; the Dreamcast shipped in Europe fourteen months earlier. The game was written for the hardware of its own moment, which is why this is a port and not a rewrite: the 200 MHz SH-4 with its vector FPU, the 8 MB of VRAM and the 16 MB of main RAM are close enough to a 2001 desktop that the interesting work is at the API boundary, not in the game.
