oldschool is beautiful: "The Japanese Famicom version of Contra (1988), ported to the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.

Why "Horizon"? The arcade Contra runs on a vertical screen. This is the home console version, played on a horizontal screen, the way most players remember it.

The Japanese release of Contra is the best version of the game on 8-bit hardware: animated backgrounds, cutscenes between stages, a map screen before each area and a full ending. This project brings that version to the Mega Drive, with the original game logic intact, new 16-bit style backgrounds and all Japanese text translated into English."
