This is the biggest change ive seen the series get like...... since Y1. I mean that when I recently played yakuza 1 it surprisingly didnt feel different from Yakuza 5, but this looks like a true evolution the series needed.

To me its just more of the same . Sure like Yakuza 3,4,V (which was a big jump)   and so on , the non playable sections look amazing In-game we see a serious down turn in graphics and just the same old moves and cities .
The Yakuza Team are amazing and really should be given 2 to 3 years to make each new Yakuza game and really need to move the series away from Japan imo

Did you even watch the trailer? There is no change between the non-player sections... It's all in-game there is no transition too and from pre-rendered.
The whole thing is a massive leap from Yak 3,4,5. This is an entirely new graphics engine and everything is seamless... Going in and out of battle, going into and out of buildings. The improvement is really undeniable.

The 'same city' complaint is really a matter of opinion... I like new locations too but moving the series out of Japan makes no sense to me at all... It's Japanese by definition.

I watched the video a few times, I'm impressed by most of the new changes, like the seamless nature of cutscenes/interiors, graphics, animations... Like CrazyTails said, the biggest jump since Yakuza 1 for the series.

That said, The camera is having some problems covering the action well. The have enough time to fix it though, since it's a ways off from release.

And please... Only Kiryu this time.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the director for this is the director of Yakuza 1 (and F-Zero GX)  It's his first directorial gig (AFAIK) since Yakuza 1.

Hum...not sure I like how the heat moves were absorbed into the rage mode. And the health bars kinda make it seem like a dumb hack and slash.

Nagoshi did say he's not satisfied with the combat mechanics and overall gameplay so they're still going at it which puts me at ease, it frankly needs work. That's the only thing I care about, everything else is just filler as far as I'm concerned, I don't really care if there's no loading screens to enter a building. In fact, I'm worried how that will affect the framerate.

Yeah I have and even in the terrible quality video, there's a downgrade in graphics on things like the jackets and so on. Hey look loads of games do it (Halo V, Tomb Raider, AC and so on) unlike Shenmue where they was hardly any downgrade at all

but Yakuza 6 isn't the massive leap the team could really do if they were given 2 to 3 years to work on the game . This gen it's really hard to make a bad looking game.

And to me the big jump with Yakuza was Part II (which must have pushed the PS2 to it's limits) and Yakuza 5 .

It's a leap, but there so was Yakuza 3 over part II. It's to be expected given its new hardware . I really doubt its a new engine though and just building on what's gone on before,. When you just have 1 year to make a game with the same team. You're not going to see huge engine leaps and the AI seems really really dull in this demo too and the added characters just there for the sake of it

Just because its Yakuza doesn't mean it got to take part just in Japan . Black Rain didn't need to be filmed and just take part in Japan. The Japanese mafia like the Italian mafia operate in places like America

Ueda-san was the director for the 1st Yakuza games

I don't know what to tell you other than you're going to find your self in the minority of people who think this isn't a vast upgrade from even Yakuza Zero in terms of graphics and seamlessness.

The only thing I saw in the whole video I wasn't keen on was the overhead health bars.

Yeah the same ones who seem to think that Yakuza IV and III looked amazing . Yakuza 6 is a nice looking game and its got some stunning environmental art . But in game it doesn't look so hot and its just more of the same .

We don't see it so much over here as unlike Japan we don't get a new Yakuza game every year. This is the best Team inside SEGA with imo the best producer in Japan (no not Nagoshi-san) but to limit this amazing team with a new Yakuza game every year is just a waste of talent and a sure way to kill creativity.

TA, maybe you could just set your avatar picture to say "I don't like the Yakuza series" and spare us the wet blanket routine every time a new one is announced. Because they're going to keep on making them every year whether you like it or not.

And maybe you should take the time to read one's posts, . I love the 1st 2 Yakuza games I think you'll find and I think Yakuza II is one of the best games SEGA ever made in their history .

Yeah, and for the past five years any time a new one is announced you pour on your usual spiel about it being nothing but the same assets from the previous one. As I've mentioned before, and others have expressed the same opinion, it almost seems like you're not actually playing them. Every game has a huge amount of new content. Not to mention the spinoffs which are in entirely different settings. Don't even go there if you're thinking that creating damaged environment art for Dead Souls is quick and easy. I work in 3D. It's a pain in the ass and a lot of work to break models. So how much weight do you expect your opinion to have? In any case, you've made your point ad nauseum. You're not going to convince other people to stop liking the series just because it's not what you think it should be. The internet in general is not a place where people are showing up to have their minds changed. So express your opinion and then move on.

As for my own thoughts about the Y6 footage... personally I'm not a fan of health bars floating above enemies. They seem to be, for lack of a better term, quite fashionable in games. But it breaks immersion and becomes visual clutter. They should indicate health in some way that's more integrated with the characters. Maybe some detail on their outfits could change color to indicate health.
