Sega's new mobile RPG is getting four times as many dislikes as likes on YouTube
Honestly I'm not as surprised. How many mobile RPGs do they own now? Chain Chronicle, Dragon Coins, Idola, that one that got an anime...
Don't get me wrong, given arcade games is Sega's secondary interest over video games themselves, and given covid is keeping everyone from going to those arcades means people will be more on their computers and mobiles. And mobile gaming would make sense to Sega given freemium payment is the same as "token payment".
But I think the reason why Sega's mobile RPGs are getting disliked is because at this point they're just churning out generic fantasy RPG stuff just to make games that encourage you to spend, just like most other mobile games out there.
If they were to release a "Joypolis app" or a "PlaySega app", the app offers like, a small bunch of tokens every hour or so but you can pay to buy more tokens. And spend these tokens on arcade games made for the phone, like classic Virtua Cop or House of the Dead games that require you to tap the screen or something.
Or if Sega wanted to, all those arcade games they have in mind but no new arcade machines to put them on, put them on the phone.
When I said Sega should go for the mobile gaming market, this is what I had in mind for them. Using what they know about arcade games and applying it to mobile games. But instead they're just making freemium RPGs that are all shell, no substance.
