Pocket Sakura (Tamagotchi but with Sakura Wars characters) was a success so I guess SEGA really wanted to follow up by making handheld version of Sakura Wars game but Game Gear was already dead.
So the only choice was to release this game on Neo Geo Pocket or Game Boy.
Luckily their choosing of Game Boy was right since this game was selling well enough it later even followed by a sequel Sakura Wars GB2.

Tamagotchi Sakura game? How does that work? Feed Iris Châteaubriand enough food and care and she turns into Li Kohran or something?

By tamagochi, I meant about its shape.
By function, it's more like a pedometer .... with Chibi Sakura talking and cheering at you.

These New Sega Charging Mats Let You Wirelessly Charge Your Phone In Style

Quote
There are seven designs available in total, with three consoles (Saturn, Dreamcast, Mega Drive), three controllers (the same three, naturally), and a more generic Sonic the Hedgehog design.
They all cost £19.99 / 19,44€ and are compatible with a range of wireless-enabled devices from the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Nokia. For peace of mind, they also feature a "non-slip rubber base" to keep them firmly in place on your desk.

Indeed. Most of the times I don't even know the other mobile games before they got collaboration / crossover with SEGA franchise.
