‘Popful Mail’ is Coming to Switch Next Week

Quote
This emulated PC-8801 version of the title was initially released in 1991 before seeing several ports over the years. Its sole English release was for the Sega CD in 1995.
Interestingly, there’s quite a bit of history surrounding this Western release, as it was initially conceived to be a remake that would make it a Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff, Sister Sonic.
However, fans’ negative reception to this decision, as they instead wanted a faithful Popful Mail release, succeeded, resulting in Sister Sonic’s eventual cancellation. Another notable tidbit is that ...

After 29 years someone’s finally made a Sega Neptune console for everyone to own

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quWay08XETU

Quote
The console will be compatible with real Mega Drive and 32X cartridges, along with games from the Sega CD.
It will also sport a HDMI connection with 1080p resolution, an SD card slot for storage, and will come with its own online platform to access ‘proprietary and exclusive services’.
While the project was announced in a trailer last month, there’s been no official images or a price for the machine itself – so it sounds like it might be a way off yet.
It’s also unclear if it will be available outside of Brazil. GamesCare is a store based in Sao Paulo which makes and sell ...

SEGA Almost Ported Shining Force 1 And 2 To Saturn

Quote
Yasuhiro Taguchi who was the main programmer wrote, "The reason is the development schedule and the labor involved.
The porting guidelines used for SEGAAGES and the like couldn't be used as is due to the capacity of ROM cartridges, and making it with CD access in mind would have meant a complete remake rather than a port, so we concluded that if we were going to spend our energy on that, we should focus on Scenario 3.
There was also the idea of outsourcing the porting work, but as mentioned above, there were too many ..."

"We Are Waiting For A Reply From Sega" - SuperSega FPGA Console Team Talk Price, Release Date And More

Quote
"The design; some people do not like it, others do – but it looks like that because we started with Master System," she says. "Our family had the Master System Plus, the one with lightgun, so we were inspired to create the SuperSega as a tribute."
'SuperSega' FPGA console will play Genesis, Master System, Saturn, and Dreamcast Games.
We're pleased to report that two omissions from the original spec list – Sega 32X and Sega CD – will be playable on SuperSega. However, the former will require the use of the 32X itself.
The claim that SuperSega will be capable of replicating Dreamcast-level performance with FPGA also raised a few eyebrows. We asked if the team actually had Dreamcast games running on the Virtex Ultrascale+; Burgués replied that "a few games" are up and running and that the Ultrascale+ has "100K-200K of logic cells that can emulate ...

Genesis Virtua Racing Port Almost Cost As Much As The Console Itself, Thanks To The SVP Chip

Quote
the SVP was incredibly expensive, with Sega's Hideki Sato stating that it cost around ¥10,000 (around $62 in modern money) per unit. Given that the average price of a video game back in the early '90s was around $40-$60, it was clear that Sega wasn't going to be making much profit from this conversion.
In fact, in an interview with Beep! magazine dating from 1994, a Sega representative said that the company almost priced it at ¥12,800 ($80) – which was as much as the console itself was selling for in Japan at that point. In the end, it was decided that the game would be released at ¥9,800 (just over $60), but it was noted that had it included a save RAM, the price could have been as high as ¥14,800 (approximately $91).
Junichi Terashima, who created the SVP chip, confirms that the price was so steep that Sega was considering putting the chip inside a separate add-on module, which could ...

Phantasy Star IV: Grand Cross is a PSIV ROM hack with immersive story-craft and presentation. Coming 2025!

Quote
Grand Cross, with its ambitiously reworked script and enhanced programming, takes aim at fully realizing the potential of this Sega classic. Apt characterization and contextual writing are the heart and soul of any narrative-rich role-playing game, but without the complement of more expressive and nuanced event scripting, such an effort, no matter how carefully crafted, runs a risk of compromising pacing and undermining the abstract charms inherent to games of this graphical fidelity and pedigree.
Grand Cross hones its superior storycraft and finely-tuned presentation to heighten immersion while honoring the spirit of the original. It is as much a new way to play as it is a ...

Fan HD Remake Of Genesis Zelda Rival 'Soleil / Crusader Of Centy' Gets A Demo This Month

Quote
Developed by @Mr_Badger, the soon-to-be-released teaser is an unofficial take on Nextech's 1994 Zelda rival, which was released under three different titles – Shin Souseiki Ragnacënty (Japan), Crusader Of Centy (North America) and Soleil (Europe).
"I preferred not to say anything until it was completed," said Mr_Badger on social media. "I can finally announce that Soleil HD will be published on July 30 on Itch. The next few days, I will try to ..."

I saw enough hype for the new Shinobi, Jet Set Radio, and Crazy Taxi games in Facebook and X.
But not for the Golden Axe and Streets of Rage ones.
I guess the change from 2D to 3D made them to wait and see first for how it will turn out.

My guess fans are still a bit hesitant over a 3D Golden Axe game given the last attempts at 3D have been flops.

Me, I'm looking forward to them. That is, if they're anything like my ideas for a Golden Axe reboot, which I hope will at least have some smidgen of.

So Sega are finally getting back into the console-making business? Only this time a small form factor gaming computer?

Looks almost too good to be true, but I've been wanting a backwards compatable Sega console.

Gameplay aside, I can't wait to see the new design of Ax and Tyris. I really dislike the last 3D design of them.

It doesn't have a SEGA logo in it so pretty sure this wasn't made by SEGA.

Looks almost too good to be true, but I've been wanting a backwards compatable Sega console.

And who knows when this product will be ready. It could take years.

That's the game with the animals, right? I think I played it once.

Yeah, it's the closest thing to ZELDA in a Mega Drive console.
