That's movie version, in comic Wolverine's healing factor makes him essentially immortal because he can heal from any injury, no matter how severe.
Wolverine's healing factor is incredibly powerful in comic, to the point where it can regenerate even from a single cell.
His healing factor has slowed down in the one of future timeline but he still managed to survive while all of the others human and gods (except All Father Thor) are gone.

If mutations are the efforts of evolution, that would make Wolverine the perfectly evolved human.
Well, he is still a kid.
What kind of backstory could a kid have?
If SEGA/Archie ever made one, I'm pretty sure it's not a traumatic one given how cheerful Charmy is.
I came up with a backstory... but I dunno if it will be liked.
He was once the daughter of a monastery-like hive colony. She and all her other sisters are the same and must collect flowers to be made into honey for their queen-mother.
One day, Charmy flew far from the colony in search of flowers and ended up on Newtrogic High Zone where she got captured and held with Knuckles, Vector, Mighty, Heavy and Bomb.
Despite the predicament, it was the most excitement Charmy ever had! The others mistaken her for a boy, but "it felt right for him" that he never said otherwise on the matter and wanted to be part of the lads.
After the Metal Sonic Kai battle, the Chaotix Crew was formed with Charmy. (Perhaps later Mighty left the Chaotix Crew and they rebranded as Team Chaotix).
That would be my story for Charmy. The reason I figured Charmy is kid-trans is that worker bees are identified as female and Charmy has a stinger and an affinity for flowers.
