Interview: DC X SONIC WRITER IAN FLYNN ON BRINGING THE ICONIC HEDGEHOG TOGETHER WITH THE JUSTICE LEAGUE

Quote
Nerdist: It’s safe to say the DC Universe and the Sonic world are very, very different, but you found a way to make them mesh pretty seamlessly. What was the hardest part of making these two mythologies feel cohesive?

Ian Flynn: I guess the biggest thing was just deciding on which iterations of the characters would be showing up, but DC and Sega weighed in on that from the very get-go. So they did most of the heavy lifting there. Beyond that, it’s a matter of treating both worlds and both casts with love and respect. And if you do that, everything else falls into place.

In the first issue, you get the most important thing out of the way first, which is “Sonic trying to race the Flash.” Did you feel that was something that needed to happen right away? Or did you consider making the readers wait?

No, no, no. You know that’s when people are coming for first thing. It’s the two iconic speedsters. You’ve got to give the people what they want. And once you get all that out of the way, then you can just have fun with ...

Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic Prime, Vol. 1 is out now!

Quote
Relive all the action from the Netflix animated series in this graphic novel adaptation!

Sonic is used to fighting it out with Dr. Eggman, and with the help of his friends Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Rouge, he usually comes out on top! But, during their latest explosive battle, a collision with the Paradox Prism sends Sonic to a parallel world called New Yoke City, where the dull environment looks oddly familiar. Once he gets his bearings, he’ll have to race through multiple dimensions to reconnect with his friends and save the world!

Volume 1 adapts “Episode 1: Shattered” and “Episode 2: The Yoke’s On You” from Season 1 of the 2022 Netflix series.

She's still being subjective. Her friendship loyalty has blinded her.
True. It's a pity. I like her design (and Garfield reference) but her choices made her ended up being the least popular.

So it's a comic of a cartoon that's been around for years. They didn't even bother redrawing it, just screenies from the cartoon.

Why bother?

But still it made her more famous since she's given a spotlight.

He looks really cool too in the Bat outfit.

It's useful for kids whose their screentime was limited by their parents.
They couldn't rewatch as many times they like so reading is a good alternative if they like Sonic Prime.

That be true.
He looks really cool too in the Bat outfit.

I'm curious if his whole head is covered with a mask... or if he coloured his red stripes.

But Sonic Prime has been out for years now. If parents are still restricting their children from watching it for that long, then that's cruel!

New jester character, either with the magenta Chaos Emerald. Gives me uh Blunderworld or whatever it was called vibes.

Fun issue, but I wish they didn't excuse the "No one will notice you're animals" thing. I mean, you'd think the Joker or Lex Luthor would being up the fact their nemesis are replaced with anthropomorphic animals be more of a deal.

Plus, don't you find it odd Dark Seid and Reverse Flash quoted Sonic Adventure 2?

Probably coloured since it will be tiresome to fit all those spiky hairs into the mask.

But Sonic Prime has been out for years now. If parents are still restricting their children from watching it for that long, then that's cruel!

Depended on which countries. Not every country got Sonic Prime day one in their Netflix. Some came recently.

Sonic is already a jester (the way he talked and mocked enemies), why make a new one?

They've met anthropomorphic animals as super heroes before so they get used to it.

Yep, odd indeed.

True. be easier that way.
Depended on which countries. Not every country got Sonic Prime day one in their Netflix. Some came recently.
then those Netflix services are cruel.

I dunno. I doubt it's anyone we know. As in, they could make it a disguise and tease "who could it be?" but it would either be a brand-new character, or one of the Diamond Cutters survived. Or the monkey
They've met anthropomorphic animals as super heroes before so they get used to it.

But who'd remember Captain Carrot?
Yep, odd indeed.
It would've made more sense if Sonic and his friends started quoting the heroes... though not like Superman or Flash had much of a catchphrase or memes.

But without Netflix there might not be Sonic Prime ... or Shenmue Animation.

I dunno. I doubt it's anyone we know. As in, they could make it a disguise and tease "who could it be?" but it would either be a brand-new character, or one of the Diamond Cutters survived. Or the monkey

Or Mimic again.

But who'd remember Captain Carrot?

Me. I grew up with those comics.
There are Indonesian version of them.

It would've made more sense if Sonic and his friends started quoting the heroes... though not like Superman or Flash had much of a catchphrase or memes.

Not much but they are memorable ...

"Up up and away!"
"Truth, justice, and a better tomorrow!"
"There's always hope.
"I'm the fastest man alive!"
"To be the best, you must face the best."
