The fact Crazy Taxi was on Steam to begin with, I don't know the procedures to it, but I feel all it would take would be a request to Steam to re-list it.

Delisted games are still "there" just inaccessible, y'know? You can even download delisted games if you have a redeem code.

It's like... right there... in my reach, but I can't have it because Steam removed the button.

If you just want to explore, there's browser/free-Roam version by Noclip/Will, allowing us to freely explore and inspect the original game's levels directly inside a web browser.
Use WASD and mouse to freely fly around the game's levels. The mouse wheel adjusts camera speed, and holding Shift doubles our movement speed.

It's more like a museum than a game though.

There's also recomp project of it I think but still wasn't finished.
Man, these recomp projects kept coming thanks to AI to the point that developer like Digital Sun pulled the public PC playtest of ReVamp and shifted to a highly restricted, invite-only phase via Discord.

The studio expressed deep frustration regarding a rising trend where some people take early playable game builds, public demos, or trailers and feed them into powerful generative AI tools
These AI tools can decompile and reverse-engineer the project rapidly. Copycats use them to "vibe-code" asset and gameplay replicas, allowing them to publish cheap clone games on storefronts like Steam, mobile app stores, and Roblox before the original developer can even launch their game.

Also there's a sad story where Japanese indie developer said they devastated and announces withdrawal from industry after their adult fantasy SLG he spent 9 years making (over 100 hand drawn character over 33 romanceable characters) is being pirated ahead of Steam launch. Andthis is not the first time AI-generated rip-off of unfinished Japanese indie games (that they were sharing for beta feedback) beat the original to release, sparking concerns about safety of sharing dev progress. The developer, Hide commented, “I’m leaving the industry (and the world at large) as it grows ever more chaotic with AI and everything else… in a way, I’m running away. I wish everyone who continues to fight the good fight all the best in what lies ahead.”

Fan port of SEGA Rally Championship (1995 arcade) is out now as RALLY VR in real stereoscopic 3D on Meta Quest 3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqwEK0hJ_Yc

Quote
port0r: "It's out! SEGA Rally Championship, the 1995 arcade game, running in real 3D VR on a standalone Meta Quest 3. Not a flat screen floating in a room: you're inside the game, at real scale, the car in front of you and the hills all around. And it's free.

How it works, in two lines: Port0r doesn't just put the arcade picture on a screen. It takes the 3D scene the original Sega Model 2 board draws and rebuilds it for each of your eyes, so you're really in there.

What you get: locked 60 fps smoothed to 120 Hz, the arcade's exact colours, a manual gearbox on the grips, vibrations on every wall hit, jump and contact, your records saved, a settings panel in 10 languages, mods (free timer, free play, sporty automatic gearbox, adaptive steering, a mirrored track with the co-driver mirrored too) and styles (night, comic, black and white)."

It's the kind of stuff predicted in that video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F05vOheVRnI

Now that AI is capable of de-compiling video games, this will make or break the video game industry. But if games that took a decade of development can be cracked and copied in a few hours, what's next for AI to break in and reverse engineer where it shouldn't?

AI is such a useful tool and I'm glad it's available to the public, but sooner or later, laws will be slapped all over them in favour of the corporations over the public. Granted, some laws for good reasons, such as laws against using AI for fraudulence (faking profile pictures, voice synthesis for private information or access, deep-fake videos to harm others reputations), but it would also effect those who want to use AI for creative uses, such as people who use text-to-speech or voice programs to voice characters in animations.

So if you have any long-term projects with AI in mind for yourself, do it now! Before whatever it is become illegal.
