SEGA Talk Podcast: OutRun (1986)

Outrun is one of the early games in racing that tried to simulate driving a car by adding the feeling of horsepower, torque, tire traction, and of course drifting.
The game’s main car was a Ferrari Testarossa which wasn’t actually officially licensed by SEGA, thus they had to go to court multiple times after the game was released.

Originally Outrun was made with the idea of driving around a course on the west coast of the US, so the music was themed around music that would come out of the speakers of the car, with there being three songs from three different genres.
I was told to make the first song rock and the second song fusion, and to do whatever I wanted for the third song, so I chose Latin music.
That song ended up being Magical Sound Shower, which was 1000% influenced by Naoya Matsuoka’s work.

SEGA Tunes: Outrun 2019’s Victorious and Feel the Beat

This is the sort of soundtrack you want to listen to when your cruising down a road at 500 miles per hour!
2019 is one of the better examples of Genesis music I’ve heard, but I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.
Outrun has a heck of a legacy when it comes to video game music, especially since the original game probably has one of the best SEGA arcade soundtracks out there.

Developed by Sega Amusements, Hot Racers is a fun, kid-friendly racing arcade title for 1-2 players.
The cabinet is designed to look like a cartoonish police car, sporting bold colors and a car-shaped control panel.
The next distinctive feature are the two, vertically mounted HD monitors.
This provides a display for each driver, the player on the left controlling a car, the player on the right controlling a motorcycle.
This different setup also means greater replay value, as kids will want to see how the other vehicle plays after finishing with the first!

Super Hang-On and OutRun are Playable in Yakuza: Like A Dragon

For Yakuza: Like A Dragon, you can expect to find arcade units for Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, OutRun, Super Hang-On, Virtua Fighter 2, and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown.
Different arcade units within each arcade offer varying difficulties as well, so make sure you pick the right one.
Also, you will have to pay the in-game currency of yen to play, so you cannot actually play infinitely.

Sega Amusements International CEO : "Sega restructuring will not affect US/Europe"

The restructuring of the Sega group in Japan will not impact Sega Amusements International, says CEO Paul Williams.
The Japanese parent company is restructuring as a result of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, but it will not affect the sales forces in the UK and US.
“We are continuing to develop new games, in association with our colleagues in Japan,” said Williams

‘Faster Than Speed’ is the newest SEGA Dreamcast Atomiswave port

Here we go, Dreamcast-Talk user MegaVolt85 has blessed us with yet another (I feel like I’ve typed this way too much) Atomiswave arcade port, this time another obscure title: Faster than Speed, an arcade street racing game by Sammy USA from 2004.
Faster than Speed has ‘trick maneuvers’ and ‘Nitro boost’ to beat your opponents.

Happy 8th Anniversary Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed !!!

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed had compelling replay value, really tight gameplay and (of course) an excellent soundtrack of remixed songs.
I had a blast playing it, and I wasn't sure how the developers at Sumo Digital could surpass the quality of this game in a future installment.
I suppose Sega felt the same way, since the Sega All-Stars series has been on hiatus ever since.

SEGA Forever, SEGA’s nostalgic social media machine, has shared cool new art by Sonic The Comic’s Rich Elson depicting Sonic and his friends in the classic SEGA Saturn/PC game Sonic R.

SEGA on which games were most popular in the SEGA Ages series on Switch

In Japan, it’s definitely Virtua Racing. In addition to the sales numbers, I believe that everyone was able to see the technical capabilities of M2.
But in terms of the number of tweets, Fantasy Zone was actually more popular than Virtua Racing.
For overseas, it’s more diverse. However, in terms of sales, Sonic the Hedgehog was by far the biggest seller.
The second most popular title was OutRun – especially in Europe.

Happy 21th anniversary Sega Rally 2 (DC) !!!

 

21 years ago, Sega Rally 2 is released for Dreamcast in North America (1999).
 It follows much of the same structure and shares similar themes to its predecessor, though offers more content and updated graphics and physics to deliver a more realistic experience.
