Virtual-On Force topic

No release outside of Japan announced yet... Is there some kind of petition we can sign or something? I really, really want this to come over, and especially would love to see this beautiful box set come too:

Anything with Takenobu is worth buying, ANYTHING!

After the recording session, he talks about what is in the box, but I am having a hard time figuring out what some of it is.

I'm awaiting word as to whether the Japanese version will be compatible with US systems. As soon as I know, I'm importing this sucka!

I'd be interested if it wern't for the costs of importing something like that.

I have to admit, this is a port of a nine year old arcade game and I think it'd be served better with an international digital release.  It's a niche title of sorts and those things don't really fare the best at retail.

The big ol' box is $149.90 at play-asia, and the far more affordable standard game is $69.90 for the Japanese version and $48.75 for the Asian version (guessing thats for areas outside Japan?). Shipping is very low at play-asia, usually between $3 and $5. I've ordered from them a lot before, they're legit and totally cool.

However, still no word on whether they're US or EURO compatible.

If I had the cash, I would get the limited edition.

They're not.  NTSC-J will not work on a US console.  I learned this over and over when trying to pirate Bayonetta before it hit here.  I'd grab the box set if the game was worth more than a cheap coaster. :-

Actually some JP releases on the Xbox 360 have been region free.  It's apparently common amongst shmups released on disc on the 360.  The publisher themselves can decide if a game should be region free or not.  Obviously you'd want to research this on the particular game you want before you buy.

^If it was region free then Play Asia would list it as Multi-Region or Region Free I think. I'm pretty sure I've looked at Play-Asia before and seen titles listed as such. When they list it as NTSC-J that means it is ONLY NTSC-J I think.

The 'Asia' version might work in Europe, as I think it works in Australia which is PAL.

Play-Asia currently has big red question marks for the US and PAL, so it's still up in the air. I'm keeping my eyes on the Virtual On fan forums too, they'll be the first to say if it's good for importing.

God I miss the days of boot discs. My Dreamcast boot disc worked with everything! Now you gotta deal with harddrives and the internet and dvd drives and system updates and being locked out of online play. :P

And this is another reason I like digital distrobution coming into the mainstream.  This way companies in say Japan could still reap in some rewards from users in other regions who want their game, even if it hasn't been localized at all.  Even SNK has put some Japanese only ports of their games on XBLA for all regions just to get some extra coin.

I also think that online distrobution is good for titles with niche appeal, retail stores don't always get a lot of copies or any copies at all of those more niche titles.  Imagine how many copies of Ikaruga would have sold if it has been sold on disc instead of XBLA?

Are you talking about KOF98UM? That was mostly in Japanese, but that was mostly SNK just being lolSNK, as they had a translated version on Playstation 2 already I think, but they just couldn't be arsed translating it into English for the XBLA release.

Having said that, I agree with you that Digital Distribution is an easy and relatively inexpensive way to allow multi-region gaming.

I want to be excited about this but isn't Force kinda broken gameplay wise?  I don't think I've ever heard anything good about it.

It may not be leaving Japan at all, and that would be a great shame, but...

http://thesegasource.wordpress.com/2010 ... gion-free/

IT IS REGION FREE!

I know the price will be crazy, but I am honestly really considering this. Even if it did come, there is no way it would have such a sweet special edition anywhere else, especially not America. I mean, if Sonic cannot get one then what kind of chance does this have?

EDIT:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game ... ievements/

Achievements. These are bad and all seem far too easy to get again.
