Shenmue does come to my mind first... but i'll go with... shenmue

I think that'll be the cause for lots of guys around here, but if I would have to pick something other than shenmue, i'd go for Skies of arcadia.

Oh yeah and modern warfare sucks, oh yeah I said it  :afroman:

Welcome to the forums btw

Lol, least the forums getting decent popularity if spambots are registering on this site.

And good call on Shenmue, best Adventure/Action game ever. Period.

But I'm going to go with ET on the Atari, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worse game ever..but I enjoyed it, it made me appersiate the shitty games that are released now-a-days. For example Modern Warfare. Good concept, just is given to much credit when it didn't do anything new. It's like FF7.. Over-rated.

It's a good game, I never said it wasn't, I just personally find it over-rated
considering it didn't do ANYTHING new. It showed nothing on the market.
People say it was the first 3d rpg.
bullshit, Baldur's Gate, Might and Magic, Elderscrolls, and before you say oh thats pc.

For a console: Wild Arms had the first 3d engine developed.
Oh boo yah
and the material system was a revamp of the first Final Fantasy's magic system. Nothing impressive.
Character designs share way to many similarities to previous FF games (Take 6 for example).

Man I bitch about that game every time someone says it's the best.
You give me a reason explaining how it's not over-rated.
And I'll reply instantly with a way to shut that down.

Tho on FF7's defense: the story was good. NO scratch that it was freaking awesome.

I'm simply stating that the game was given way to much credit over absolutely shit all.

It's like having two apple pies the exact same but one has a brand name and the other doesn't
People like the one with the brand name, simply cause everyone else wants that brand name in they're mouth (no sexual reference intended).
I dunno, FF7 just pisses me off.

Everyone says OMFG FF7 is da bomb.
I ask why, they give me no realistic reason behind it.
other than "It just is yo!"
Even the story has been beatened out tho man, I can list multiple games with better stories that mannny people will agree with.

Mind you this is just all my opinion.
If you like the game, whatever that's fine.
It is a good game, great story.
BUT, dont give it credit it doesn't deserve like everyone else always does.

Nah you didn't offend me. I think I played most of the games you listed, baldurs gate is not 3d, it's made of sprites but ff7 being 3d isn't even the main thing of why I think it's such a good game.

First of all is the world itself. It's really unique and while there had been 6 installments before. Final fantasy 7 took things to a whole new level that even sequals haven't achieved to do yet. Final fantasy 8 was boring and it's fighting system was stupid(now that game is overated). Final fantasy 9 was good too but nowhere near 7. Everything after was just same ol square enix garbage. Funny however is that Crisis core on the PSP(ff7 spin off) is actually really good.

The story is really interesting but it only gets more interesting as you progress. The story is one of the highpoints overall. It is an excellent story. The thing however is that it's not just a good story. It's a lot more than that like you just said it being awesome. The story seems to have been made by those old school manga movie makers. I mean who doesn't love AKIRA? It gave off that vibe. The scene where Cloud tells the story of his past comes into my mind. Stuff like that just give me goosebumps when I think about them becuase it's really well done. Beside the good story, there was a humor in the game that was sorta japanese. But the good kind of japanese humor where it wasn't exegurating. I don't know if you ever did it but there's a city where you can visit a HOTEL where you can pick a room. If you pick the wrong room (or for some the right lol) you end up going in bath with GAYmen. Yeah it was a room for gays. I loled because it looked so stupid but also the music playing in the scene just fitted so excellent.

The game has a sort of apeal to it that's hard to describe. I really can't point my finger on to why the game was so special for me on my first playthrough. The story defenity plays a big role, the music as well, the world. But there are a lot of other games as well that do all those things right. I think it's the way all those factors mashed up together in such an excellent way to why it was so good. The music suited so perfect with each and every mood and scene.

The gameplay was good too. It wasn't complicated. It was simple but yet executed well. The gameplay is the thing which is most important. There are a lot of turn based RPG's that become repetitive after a while because of the battle system being boring, or random battles taking too long. Here it wasn't a problem at all. I recently opened a thread where I complimented Golden sun's battle system because battles didn't occur constantly but also if they occured, they didn't take that long, except for bosses. The materia system was just one of those simple systems that just needed to be added to add some extra spice to it. Simple but yet still interesting. All the battle themes were epic as well, all of them.

It being overrated? I don't know. It would easily get into my top 10.. or even 5 of games i've played throughout my life. Even now if I go ahead and start a new save file and replay it again, I know i'll finish it again with a lot of joy, for maybe the 5th time.

Lol, while your reading this you may notice that i'm one of them guys that might be overrating it too much :P.

Though i'd like to point out that Skies of Arcadia, another dear game to me, defenitly surpasses ff7 in every way for me.

I'd like to know, did you finish ff7? Or please tell me your own experiences with the game.

PS: I agree with the MTV part

I finished Final Fantasy 7, I got it on the PC, give or take four times, Once when I first got it, and when I got an original copy for PS1 I played it on the Console to see any difference (not many for the record) another time after playing Crisis Core for the PSP.

I dunno, the whole game I found to be way to similar to FF6, I'll have to play through both those games again to give details on it. I'll start up a new Topic on this forum after doing so. Gotta find the old dusty CDs whereever i put them.
And DreamSNES here I come again lol...

And I gotta say, you impress me my friend. You odda be the first one to over-write me in giving reasons to why it's so appealing to your point of view.

My facts may be off. I know alot of the key reasons tho ppl say it's the best, aren't real reasons, ex. first 3d RPG for consoles.

And F MTV, I'll start a new topic right now to discuss the horror it's done to everything. They signal handedly destroyed my child's unborn child.
ANd I DONT have a child.

Yeah, think about that lol

I miss music videos being played on a regular basis, instead of crappy reality shows all the time.

Panzer Dragoon Saga was around the same time as FF7, and a much better game, though shorter.  It had a better everything.

But it's been a lot easier for people to casually pick up and play through FF7 over the years. Aside from the millions of physical copies floating around, it's on the PSN for $10 or something.

I'm sure that if SEGA would release Panzer Dragoon again in any form, you'd probably get a few converts.

FF7 was released a year before Panzer from what I understand.
Never played it fully but from what I got to do I was more impressed with it for sure.

I played both and even though I loved Panzer Dragoon SAGA. I find ff7 to be overall the better game. I really liked Panzer Dragoon SAGAS but while the dragon fight mechanics were great, I just couldn't help but want battles on surface as well, with edge and a party. I think that is something that would have made Panzer SAGAS a much better game.
