Yeah, for all intents and purposes, Sonic The Hedgehog is utter crap.

And as far as bad Sonic games go, I also put Sonic Heroes way up there. And Sonic Riders too.

Virtua Fighter vs Tekken for Megadrive (Genesis)

Yeah, I know it's a pirate game, but at that time I didn't know.
I went to some game shop and find this game on the rack.
Two months before that I bought Virtua Fighter 2 (Megadrive version) which I love it so much,
so when I saw this game I couldn't think straight.

I was like, OMG, the dream match game is here. There are Shun and Lion also.  Insta buy.
Turn out the game is rubbish and after about hour to play then realized that this is a pirate game.
My hard earned money went into waste.

If you google "genesis virtua fighter vs tekken" you'll find some video of it.
There are also many sites providing its ROM so you can play it via emulator.
Don't let the graphic fools you (since it fooled me before thinking that it's almost the same as virtua fighter 2 for Genesis)
since the gameplay is slow and the fighters moved slower than heroes in Altered Beast.

After this one, there are tons of pirated game's following it on Genesis then such as Harry Potter, Tekken 2, Pikachu, Super Mario Bros, King of Fighters '97, Michael Jackson's Dangerous, Sonic Jam, Mulan, Hercules, Iraq War, and a game that made my friend who only owned SNES jealous when he saw it on the store because he loved this game so much on the arcade : Soul Blade. If only he knew.

Yeah, I'm aware it's a bootleg, but a bad game is still a bad game, be it an official game or not.

The worst games debate has to take into account the expectation around said game.
Sonic 06 is not that bad, but after a string of constant successes (even Heroes was very well received) it was an absolute shock! Sonic Team should have known much better.
Another mention are the PS3 games Lair and Haze. The expectation was huge and they were god awful.

If we're ignoring the steam greenlight crud and only focusing on games from big/known studios, I'd say Silent Hill HD Collection. Seriously, how do you mess this up? This should have been the "ultimate edition" with everything running smoothly, but no. We got a far inferior version of all the games. This collection was well known and loved so it had hype, and it ended up being a technical mess.

For films, I'd say Star Wars, the phantom menace. While true AotC was probably worse, the level of expectation and hype for the return of Star Wars was met with a huge thud shortly after the opening shots of TPM.
