5+ games a week is extremely, extremely impressive for a service the publisher never mentioned for months. Not to mention, it all works perfectly and gives you free demonstrations of everything. A lot of the games can even be beaten within the time, so no loss to the player really.

If there's one thing I miss from the Xbox it's the great online services support.

Agreed. Game Room never has had to "redeem" itself as it has already won over enough players to survive. Game Room has consistently been in the top 5 purchased Arcade titles (combining all individual game sales for the week), and in the top 10 during weeks which feature big sales on other older Arcade titles.

Krome would be stupid to release every major title up front, instead they've been releasing major titles over time. The staggered releases of Pitfall, Time Pilot, Gyruss and Atari arcade titles keeps interest spread out rather than one big bang and then crap titles for the rest of the service's lifespan. As a regular Game Roomer, I can tell you that this has worked. I'm always keeping an eye out for the next game pack, hoping (and usually getting) a cool popular or cult favorite title.

As for updates that would make Game Room into The Sims, I don't care. Game Room doesn't need a first person mode, third person mode or interior decorating options. Sure, any of those would be interesting, but they do nothing to improve the purpose of Game Room. However, recent updates that HAVE improved the purpose of Game Room have appeared over the past few weeks and have made the service even better. I laid them out earlier in this thread, but a few include dynamic leader boards that shift as you play (rack up points in-game and see your name shoot up in the ranks) and much more specific search filters.

Replaying a lot of these 2600 games reinforces to me why the system was so wildly popular.  The graphics are crude, but the motion and framerate is so fast and fluid.  The Intellivision by comparison has much better graphics and really impressive complexity, but the framerate is usually so slow and chuggy and the interface is often needlessly complex.

Yeah, I've only bought one Intellivision title (Buzz Bombers) and it is complex, sure, but it really does chug along as you've mentioned. Also, the music pauses when a sound effect has to play.

Who cares if I'm the only one to post here!

So I haven't updated this for a while, however last week Game Pack 12 hit and it is PACKED with some great games! Check out the lineup:

Arcade
Blades of Steel
Trick Trap
Amidar
Detana Twinbee
Food Fight
MIA: Missing in Action (aka Rush'n Attack 2)
Pooyan
Sunset Riders
Twinbee

Atari 2600
Pitfall II
Off The Wall
Thwocker
Warlords

Intellivision
Volleyball
Vectron

Not all games have unlocked yet, that'll be next Wednesday, however on that day Sunset Riders will be out! Very cool stuff. I downloaded the two Twinbee titles as I'm a sucker for Konami shmups. I'll probably get Food Fight and MIA as well.

I'd never heard of Pooyan before, but there are a few missions in MGS: Peace Walker that are based on it.

Mama Pig uses her bow and arrow to shoot down foxes riding down on balloons to protect her Pooyan (baby piggies).

SEGA fun fact: Pooyan was directed by Tokuro Fujiwara, who later was a Game Designer on MadWorld.

Very interesting info.
It'd be cool if there was something as extensive as imdb for game developers.

I heard about these, pretty impressive. I love these classic Shinobi knock offs!

Probably going to pick up Sunset Riders, not really sure about the others though.

Oh! And I forgot to add that Microsoft has done away with buying the 360 version of a game and the PC version of a game separately. Now the way it works if that once you purchase a game, it is playable on both platforms (and maybe in the future on the Windows Phone?). Also, this is retroactive, so any games purchased in the past for either one is playable on the other.

Glad to see them continuing.  I was worried that Game Room would end since it seems the developer has severely cut back/perhaps totally shut down.
