I disagree, Sonic Runners is what it is; a free mobile phone game made for short stints of fun. It has a real Sonic aesthetic, it looks and feels like a Sonic game. It may be incredibly simple but it's not trying to be anything else. It does what it was made to do and it does it well.

These boom games look or and play nothing like Sonic; they're slow, they have bad level design and they aren't fun...

There's actually a lot churning through the rumor mill right now about two potential unannounced Sonic games based on some VA credits someone dug up online. 

If there was going to be a new big game this year, we probably would have already heard about it so I wouldn't count on it.  But next year should be pretty interesting.

If the TV show is still going, I'd like to see them expand the characters to include some of the game characters and not just the background characters created for Boom.

I heavily suspect they're probably building concepts, tearing them down, and building something completely new.  Rinse and repeat.  It's possible that they've had a focused vision for these past few years but knowing them, I find that extremely unlikely. 

Would be worrying if they still don't have something to build on. Should have either stuck with Lost World or Generation formula but they aren't known to be the best planners so...

The trailer looked like it had pretty classic looking gameplay, mixed with the fire/ice elements though.

In my eyes it looked far more like classic 2D sonic than Runners, but I never played/saw the first 3DS Sonic Boom either.

I already know that many people do not like Sonic 4 but that doesn't mean I can't. I don't care if I'm in the minority of an opinion because it's MY opinion. Many people also say Sonic Unleashed is a bad game but that is one of my favorite games.

That's fine, but you said 'Can't go wrong with 2D Sonic', when most people thought Sonic 4 was rubbish.

Sonic Unleashed I also thought was quite bad, but it had potential. I can see why you would enjoy it.

I'd like to think that since next year is the 25th anniversary of the franchise, they're actually giving this a bit more thought or even development.  Might be that odds are against that, but even SEGA/Sonic Team has to realize they need to make a hit.
