SEGAbits: First of all, how did you become a Sonic fan, any cool memories you can share?

Noah Copeland: Remember when stores had those game demo kiosks where the controller was down low and the screen was 12 feet in the air? I cranked my neck to a demo of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle once. The music, the attitude, the stunts, the camera work, the action, the gameplay… it was everything my ten year old brain could have wanted! I was hooked. But I couldn’t afford a Game Cube, so I found a CD-ROM the next aisle over. It was Sonic 3 & Knuckles for Windows 95. It was the first game I ever bought.

SEGAbits: A lot of people peering from the outside never realise how tough it is just to construct such a massive labour of love, especially when it comes to a fangame. What was the toughest thing you had to endure when making it?

Noah Copeland: The level design was very hard but I can’t overemphasise the never-ending, indefinite nature of fan games. You’re not getting paid, you’re never going to get paid and neither are your collaborators. You have no deadlines that aren’t self-imposed. Online, you have a lot of people telling you, “this will never be finished, like every other fan game.” In your personal life, people are saying, “are you still working on that game thing of yours?” Many times, I just couldn’t see the end.
It took five years and it looked like it was never going to be done. Finding the motivation to fight through that was tough. But when I started the project, I told myself that no matter what, I was going to finish it. Whether it turned out any good or not, I was going to finish it. And I did.

Sonic Hoshi is a 2D fan game that fits in-between the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3.

After collecting the seven Chaos Emeralds and defeating the Death Egg, Sonic and his new friend, Tails, are attacked by a familiar foe, Metal Sonic!
Metal knocks the seven emeralds out of Sonic, striking down Tails' Bi-Plane, the Tornado, as the duo crash land on the unfamiliar Starshine Island.
Upon arrival, Sonic and Tails notice that their surroundings have been trampled by Badniks, while the nefarious Dr. Robotnik appears to be multiple steps ahead.
Robotnik has begun the investigation of the island's mysterious shrine, A temple containing a powerful entity known as the Celestial Star.
Rumour has it this star can rival the power of the Chaos Emeralds when fully powered, but it’s a race to see who can power and retrieve the Celestial Star first!

This game was designed for PC only, and has 2 separate playable characters, Sonic and Tails.

Given I find theme songs somewhat represent Sonic in his current mindset of himself and the adventure, it just sounds so.. I dunno, like the frontier means not just where he's going but who he is, that he's coming to realize himself or something. I mean, I doubt SonAmy will be a legit thing at the end but given he's directly saving Amy (and Tails) as the "ones I love" where he usually just mince words to refer to them as good friends. I dunno.

The more I learn of Sonic Frontiers, the more it sounds like aliens got a hold of Sonic Generations and with what they know about our worlds culture made this game for us.

May be Sonic is just shy so he said "good friends" when others around.
But when in his friends in danger, his true feelings show,
that's why he doesn't hold back his feelings and what he said anymore.
Welp, that sounds more like Boom Sonic than game Sonic.
