The local video rental store is going out of business, so I stopped in for the sale. Big sign on the wall reads: USED DVD: $8, $6 for each additional. Used BLU: $10, $8 for each additional.

All the DVDs came with mint cases, lots of rarities and great movies and shows!

So I piled high every single Universal Monster release, all the episodes of The Prisoner (1960's version) and a VERY rare Japanese movie that goes for $50 used.

I get up to the register, and they screwed me. Turns out any DVDs that they deem to be "rare" or "out of print", they will match the lowest used Amazon price. Wtf? The Monster DVDs were offered at $15 each, the rare Japanese movie was to be $50. Rip off. Thankfully they price matched the wrong Prisoner DVDs and I got the full series for $20 (retails for $70). :P

Well, you have to tell us what this Japanese film is now.

Ah yes, it's called Tampopo. I saw it in a college film class. It's a comedy about food, it's labeled the first "noodle western film". Pretty wacky stuff.

Here's the plot per wikipedia:
Tampopo begins when a pair of truck drivers, an experienced one named Goro and a young sidekick named Gun (played by Tsutomu Yamazaki and Ken Watanabe respectively), happen onto a decrepit roadside fast food stop selling ramen (noodles). The business is not doing too well, and after getting involved in a fight, the heroes decide to help the widowed owner, Tampopo ("Dandelion", played by Nobuko Miyamoto), turn her establishment into a paragon of the "art of noodle soup making".

The main narrative is interspersed with stories involving consumables on several levels. The primary subplot involves a white-suited yakuza gangster (Koji Yakusho) and his mistress (Fukumi Kuroda), who find eyebrow-raising and erotic new ways to use food. Other satirical vignettes involve a lowly office intern who upstages his senior management superiors by displaying a vast and cultured culinary knowledge while ordering at a gourmet French restaurant; a housewife who rises from her deathbed to cook one last meal for her family; and a women's etiquette class in learning how to eat spaghetti properly, i.e. without a sound as "people from foreign countries would absolutely never forgive loud slurping". Another subplot involves a corner store clerk who has to deal with an older woman obsessed with squeezing food. The clerk's scene segues into a restaurant involving gangsters and stock market scams.

If you can't rent it, give it a torrent download. Definitely worth a watch! The yakuza dude is hilarious.

Went a little nuts on ebay and filled the holes of a few collections:

• Got the remaining five USA Sonic the Hedgehog novels (circa 1995) for $1 each
• Got a pack of Full Moon trading cards for the movie Seedpeople (from the creators of Puppet Master), each pack features a different movie and has the same cards in every movie pack. I had 7 of the 8 movie packs.

• Power Stone anime DVD volume 3. I had all but this one. It's a good series, slightly ruined by a bad dub. However I still want to see all the episodes.

No clue! They could be or they might end up being straight up novels. Sonic Retro lists them, but they don't have any info abut them. I might just give back to the community and fill in the empty wiki pages when the books arrive.

Oddly enough, in looking for the books I found the author's contact info. The dude lives in New York. I considered emailing him some questions for an interview. I figure it would be one of the more obscure interviews that could be done for the 20th anniversary.

It's quite good. Sonic or Eggman pass by every couple of seconds and there are some sound effects from the game when cycling through menus. Thankfully, the sounds won't get annoying unlike some other themes.

That sounds pretty cool.
I've got the Flower dynamic theme, and enjoy it quite a bit. It even changes depending on the time of day.
