Like Barry I never buy Nintendo consoles until many years after launch...
I'd say if there is one thing that can be said for all Nintendo consoles post SNES is that by the middle of the second year the line up is barron as shit.

It's better to wait until the console goes down in price and you can pick up all the good games at a low price.

If it's anything like the Wii every mother and child you know will own one anyway so you wont go with out.

Yeah but Barry waits like 20 years after it is discontinued to get it.

For the NES, there was one at my Grandma's house (it was my uncle's console), our family cabin and my best friends house, so I really had no reason to buy one. I played a good deal of the games between '89 and '95, just not on my own machine. Though when I did buy one, it was the garage sale deal of the century: $25 for an NES, two controllers and 10 games all near mint in box including both Zelda titles, Metroid, Double Dragon and Heavy Barrel.

Anywho, I wasn't really living in the past. Outside Nintendo consoles, I've bought every SEGA console since the Genesis near launch (Saturn 2 years after lunch), PS2 6 months after launch and XBOX one year after launch. When "Summer of Shadow" happens at my place this summer, people will see all the consolez I have and they can play all the sweet Shadow the Hedgehog games. It'll be a blast.

Will do! Ya harr matey!

Does anybody else see the many Dreamcast similarities?
• Releasing as the first of a new generation, possibly 3 years before the competition (1998 Dreamcast, 2000 PS2 and 2012 Nintendo, 2015 PS3/720)
• As such, becoming the weakest console of the next generation
• Screen in controller gimmick (VMU, anybody?)
• Big selling point would be to see flagship platforming icon in a shiny new game (Sonic in 3D, Mario in HD)
• Would lose sales to those waiting for the next Playstation (and the XBOX)
• Might not play the latest in video disc (DVD for Dreamcast, Blu-ray for Nintendo) while the competition will

Biggest difference is that the Dreamcast was a huge step up from the PS1 and N64, whereas I just cannot see what draw the next Nintendo console will have aside from Nintendo franchises in HD.

As of now, I challenge Nintendo to surprise the hell out of me.

Another big difference is that Nintendo is coming off possibly the greatest success story in video games with Wii/DS and has goodwill up the arse, whereas Sega was coming off the biggest flop that ever flopped with Saturn and pissed off everyone in the world.

True, though do you think Nintendo would find success in moving from family friendly Wii to a more HD "hardcore" machine? Unless their aim is HD family friendly hardcore... stupid video games and their target markets.

Why bother to compare it to a SEGA console? The fact remains it is not a SEGA console, it is a Nintendo console thus it will be like other Nintendo consoles. Release dates don't matter. SEGA is SEGA, Nintendo will not achieve this greatness ever. They are too busy doing the same thing for the last 25 years and not evolving.

As for Wii 2 news:

Even if the 'GPU' is this fast, there are other things to consider before you say 'x is faster than x'. Ram and CPU will matter most. Its like 3DS, when they showed GPU tests before launch they had some 'PS3 like' titles with the 'Resident Evil' demo... then the game came out and it looked shit.

We shall see.

Don't see how most other major publishers are any better or worse then they are.

What you babbling about?

I am no Nintedo fan but you have to give credit where credit is due!

Nintendo is an evolutionary company just look at their controllers.

Where as SEGA basically copied the Nes controller and then kept on adding buttons to it.

The Saturn Controller was a genesis controller with the trigger buttons Snes introduced.

Their N64 and Gamecube controller may have been extremely bad but they were original and innovative adding to evolution.

Even SEGA legends like Yu Suzuki have taken cues from Nintendo calling Psy-Phi the SEGA DS.

Look I am not pushing SEGA down here, I've just taken one variable in the video game industry and have shown that Nintendo has always evolved in that realm and not just with hardware but with innovative hardware.

Every videogame company has innovated at some point or another but Sega were really pushing it.

Everything 'original' about this GEN was introduced by Sega.

- XBLA/PSN? ... The Sega Dream Arena was free and could browse the net freely.

- Screens on controllers? Pah-Leez Nintendo. I had that over a decade ago! Yes I could take it around with me, yes I could play games on it and yes I could even swap Save Deta with my friends whilst at school!

- Motion controllers? Fishing Rod and Maracas, sure they did it wrong by making it game specific but the idea was there.

- DLC? Sonic Adventure 2, JSR, Skies of Arcadia... and it was completely free. Not to mention the so ahead of it's time it still shocks me 'Sega Channel'.

-Dedicated Server games on console! PSO! (Nintendo is still struggling to have a good online service...)

-The Game Gear was amazing, battery life sucked but it had a back lit screen and full colour way before Nintendo.

Lets not forget the Arcade scene, Sega had so many firsts in the arcades that have crept into main stream gaming and are now taken for granted, it's not even funny!

I think I could go on and on and on about things Sega did to revolutionize gaming… They were way ahead of their time in many respects.

Most of the things you mentioned already existed before Nintendo or SEGA.

SEGA just brought some to consoles.

That's what Sharky is saying I think. SEGA brought those innovations to the gaming world.
