Microsoft tested a screen on the controller for the original Xbox, but they said most people did not like it, and that it was only useful for things like card games when playing with multiple people.

I could see this mechanic working with Nintendo's mentality though. Anyone who has properly played games like Four Swords Adventures or Pac-Man Vs knows how awesome it really is, but getting it all set up is such a massive struggle...

I am entirely certain Nintendo are going to make a new console and reveal it soon, all of it just makes so much sense.

Hardware sales are completely stalled, 3rd parties are abandoning Wii and DS because unknown IPs just do not sell, even Nintendo themselves are pretty much stopping releases on stuff like the Virtual Console.

I honestly believe they are shooting themselves in the foot though. Every time a big company launches into first place and basically "Prints money" for themselves, they go nuts with it all and everything collapses around them.

Whatever this next platform is, I dunno if I will be getting it and I have no idea how it will ever be anywhere near as popular as Wii or DS has become. I am a huge fan of Nintendo as hard as it is to believe sometimes, but the things they have done lately just drive me crazy.

Every Nintendo console post SNES has gone the same way, a year or two later the line up is thin, long periods of the year there is nothing but causal games and movie games, all the good third parties go else where.

I'll probably never buy a Nintendo console until the end of its life time again. That said maybe it is time to finally buy a Wii of my own and all 10 great games it has on the cheap.

Honestly all of the innovations this gen were done by Sega over a decade ago...

-XBLA and PSN? ... DreamArena! Sega did it first!
-DLC? ... Sega Channel! Sonic Adventure 2, Skies of Arcadia! Sega did it first!
-Motion Controller? ... Samba Maraccas and Fishing Rod, Sega did it first!
-Control with your body? ... Sega Activator, Sega did it first!
-Screen on the controller? ... Yeah...  

Console advances in the last 10 years are still catching up with Sega...

Wouldn't surprise me if they had something in the pipeline soon, since the Wii is starting to get stale. Their own games are still big sellers, but things are really drying up compared to what it used to be.

Will be interesting to see what, if anything comes of this.

I have always believed what you just said but SONY probably disagrees with you while every company prior to SONY went bezerk and self destructed after hitting #1.

Sony survived self destruction, the PS3 launch was a disaster.

Extermination of backward compatability, insanely high prices, loses long time exclusives (Tekken, Final Fantasy), yet they still survived and won over every one.

If only SEGA acted the same way with the Saturn (Asshole Stolar gave up on it to soon), we'd be playing Evolution instead of Revolution.

I really doubt the Saturn had a chance in hell, if they didn't give up on it Sega would likely be dust by now.

In the meantime I don't really think the rumours are much to get all worked up over. There won't be any definite answers until E3, and it's not exactly news that a new console would probably be coming out this year. I mean look at the schedule for Wii releases this year.

Ha! Yeah, I knew somebody would mention that. Naw, I'm not bothered at all. I have never ever been one to buy a Nintendo console at launch, let alone within the first 5 years. Bought an NES in 2002, a GBA in 2009 and a Wii this month. Should the console hit in the next year, I still would have Wii titles to catch up with and would have no interest in first party Nintendo titles.

I actually find the rumored Wii 2 to be sort of stupid. I mean, they say it will either be as powerful as a 360 or a bit more powerful than a PS3. Wow, way to go Nintendo. You've matched the current HD consoles in power and it only took 6 years. What more, even if people buy into the Wii 2 in late 2011/early 2012, both MS and Sony will release new consoles come 2014/2015. So the Wii 2 would be 2-3 years old and already the weakest console of the three. It would be the current generation all over again!

Personally, come 2012 I'd much rather buy a PS3 for a great price than buy into a new Nintendo console at what could be triple the cost. Yakuza, Ico trilogy and Uncharted or more Mario, Zelda, etc.? I'd go with PS3. Also, I doubt we'd have a solid library of SEGA titles until late 2012/2013 and even then, many would probably be multiplatform what with an HD Wii 2 being easier to port over to (just a guess).

Anyway, I think Nintendo is too late to the party. Whatever a Wii 2 does better than the PS3/360, an eventual PS4/720 will surly clobber it. I also bet that the PS4/720 will support both Move and Kinect, thus ensuring that owners of those respective devices will migrate to the next platform. So I can't see dedicated PS3/360 owners jumping ship for Wii 2 when the next console is just a few years out.

Here I thought I lived in the past.

I got a PS2 in 05/06 and I still have a ton of games to catch up on (Sonic Heroes, Blood Will Tell, Altered Beast and so on).

NES in 2002 damn, that doesn't even sound like fun anymore. 2002!!! That's post Dreamcast those games would be shitty and unplayable. I find it hard to enjoy several Genesis games in this day and age while Sonic is amazing, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi really show there age in terms of graphics.
