Publisher would ignore mods as long as they are free,
but when money's involved,
their lawyer would come to mods maker.

What I mean is, if fans make seasonal and festive mods for games then that means two things:

• There is a market for it, even if it's a minor one, can make a bit of scratch from it.
• Sonic Team can make their own mods to sell as a DLC. After all if fans can do it, so can the developers.

I understand, but just because they can make it, doesn't mean that it would sell well enough compared if the resources are used to make a new game.
Paid games market are different with FTP ones.

But it would only be for DLCs that could just make a bit of money from, or for free if they want to. It would make Sega look good as well as something to do for the holidays.

The alternative if they do want to make a profit would be to make an original video game entirely based on the holiday. Like a Sonic Storybook game where SOnic goes to Christmas world or something.

Years ago when SEGA said "Merry Christmas", they got attacked by non-christian fans, saying that SEGA only care for their christian fans.
Last year when SEGA said "Happy Holidays",  they got attacked by christian fans, saying SEGA is cowards for not having gut to say "Merry Christmas" like other game company did.
They can't satisfy everyone.
