Arcade Archives re-releases the naughty classic shmup PHELIOS

Originally released in 1989, the Namco-developed shooter never made its way to American arcades due to the bondage and torture scenes featuring Artemis in between levels.
Mega Drive port of it was first published in Japan by Namco themselves in July 1990, with the company bringing the title to the United States the following October.
Later in December 1991, the game also received a European release courtesy of Sega.
You can find the Greek-themed shmup for the first time in the west for $7.99 on Nintendo Switch (via the eShop) and PlayStation 4 (via the PlayStation Store).

Sstayed in Japan only though, it's a lot of texts story-heavy so it's kinda nightmare for translators.

In a tweet marked “sending resistance,” it states: “The Sega State is trying to deceive and control people. This account was opened to reveal the “truth”.
“I want to deliver the truth that Sega is hiding from the people to as many as possible. Please help spread the word. Let’s take back the original world from the Sega State.”

Kinda wild SEGA approved this.

Yoko Taro, who serves as the game’s creative director, said: “It’s a game that features Sega’s IP, so I thought Sega should be in the game, but I didn’t think Sega would want to see a game that portrayed it well, so I portrayed it negatively.

M2 has announced Zero Fire, the third entry in its Toaplan Arcade Garage series following Kyukyoku Tiger-Heli and Hishou Same! Same! Same!.
It will launch in 2023 in Japan.

It just goes to show Sega has a sense of humour. If anything it kinda reflects how the merge with Sammy caused Sega to redirect it's interest in the amusement industry leaving video games as a secondary interest thus crippling Sega's reputation and quality.

Having a resistance represented by Classic-Dreamcast era franchises could be regarded as the old spirit of Sega trying to beat the corporate giant it becomes.

Plus, I can see how this game could be regarded as a sequel to SegaGaga if the Console War Race refer to Dogma from SegaGaga.

If Sega wanted to, they could probably release a PC version of this game for consoles if they ever decided to re-release/internationalize SegaGaga.... Bloody likely that will ever happen.
