Pong inspired Steven Lisberger to make the awesome Tron movie.
Who knows someone could be inspired by After Burner to make a movie out of it.
Very small chance but who knows. But yeah, for now watching Top Gun is the most closest thing we get to After Burner movie.

Inspiration is one thing, results is another. Take the Battleships movie for example which was inpired by a board game. That came out bad.

I was thinking that may be the car was secretly a sentient being like Fantasy Zone planes, but Transformer movies already cover that.

Reminds me of Knightrider.

But Out Run the game was made by Yu Suzuki. His inspiration was the movie The Cannonball Run but it was also his trips to Europe during the developments of the game which inspired him for it to be a game that emphasizes the appreciation of the journey and joy of riding than just racing or destination.

Because of that I think an OutRun movie should be more of a road trip movie than a racing movie.

The poses may be and the way they smile. For the dresses, sometimes Law version is more provocative :

I guess it varies. But Idola does have a fashion statement between chaos and law.

Perhaps. Either way I find it hard to imagine OutRun getting a movie adaption that compliments the journey than just make it Need 4 Speed.

Not only would introducing these concepts in Sonic's movie would be a better way to introduce ideas and possible spin-offs to such movies but it will certainly flavour them more.
For example, the Siberian tavern scene in Sonic 2, the thought of Altered Beast crossed my mind with this guy.

Missed opportunity yes but I imagine it would just make noi sense why sinerian guy is a werebear. Not enough people in the audience would get the context.

Now if in Sonic 3 we get to see GUNs aircraft carrier (or at least the movie-adaption of Metal Harbor), I can imagine the fighter pilots taking off to the AfterBurner theme. If they want to they can have Cmdr. Walters talking to one of the fighter pilots under the callsign "AfterBurner" and if Paramount wanted to they could give Tom Cruise the role as a cameo.

That way even if fans in the audience don't get AfterBurner as a reference they will get Top Gun as a reference. And given Sonic's third movie will be a loose adaption of Sonic Adventure 2 means GUN will be more involved for such a reference to happen.

I still remember the absolute hype of Shadow's reveal. I just did not expect it at all!
