Yes, they should have, I remember there were some fans' dissapoinment about Altered Beast being a bundled in game with SEGA Genesis console.
Eventhough the game was kinda arcade perfect (or arguably better since it has parallax scrolling), fans feel the game's too "shallow" for a console game.
That's why Tom Kalinske asked SEGA Japan to replace it with Sonic the Hedgehog.



But of course once again, time restraints usually made the developer who ported the game couldn't add anything new into the game other than minor changes.

It was a good call on Tom's part given it was important to put Sonic's face on Sega.

But I can't (or can, sort of) blame Sega for time constraints on porting Altered Beast because while they were thriving in the console business at the time they were still mostly porting arcade games because arcades what they do.

But of course time restraint was also factor since the 16-bit console was also too new for their developer to experiment with.

Kickstarter Campaign for Hunter Girls (SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive) is Live Now!

As you know, we’d already opened a kickstarter campaign for Black Jewel Reborn in 2022, and at that time we had an almost complete version for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. But when we raised more money than we’d expected, we decided to expand the game a lot, as a result, the development has been delayed by a whole year. Naturally, people took it negatively, but the game has become much more packed with content and mechanics during that time.

This time we decided to do things differently: we have a fully finished game, we already have a small stock of 100 copies for our backers. We changed the fundraising process: now we finish the game - and then we raise money. We need it to cover the development and production costs. And that's how we will do it with all our future releases.

Ray’z Arcade Chronology coming to PC this fall

Ray’z Arcade Chronology first launched for PlayStation 4 and Switch on March 9 in Japan and June 30 worldwide.
Publisher TAITO and developer M2 will release shoot ’em up collection Ray’z Arcade Chronology for PC via Steam this fall, the companies announced.
It will support English and Japanese language options.
