RUMOR TIME: Sonic Dimensions for Wii U
« on: October 29, 2011, 12:57:33 am »
http://www.tssznews.com/2011/10/29/rumor-details-emerge-on-wii-u-sonic/

Quote
We’re technically not yet at Sonic Generations‘s launch day.  But TSSZ has learned through a source that development is already well underway on Sonic’s next adventure tailored to Nintendo’s next console–and it’s not a Generations port.

TSSZ has learned Sonic Dimensions, a working title for the next Sonic, will take place directly after Generations and be a spiritual successor to Sonic Colors.  We don’t know if this game will necessarily be exclusive to the Wii U, but we’re told it will have visual quality in line with Generations and it will take advantage of many Wii U specific capabilities.  That includes the use of the Wii U mini-tablets for up to a 4 person multiplayer, and use of the revised Wii U remote and its touchscreen to destroy enemies and activate powers.

So what’s the gimmick this time?  TSSZ has learned Dimensions’s storyline will center around another time-space continuum shift at the hands of Eggman that not only alters Sonic’s world, but himself.  Sonic will allegedly split into multiple personalities denoted by color–each of which having their own unique abilities.  That’s right, if this holds, recolored Sonics are now a reality.

In addition to the main Sonic, which will remain blue and act as a core uniting “ghost” of sorts in-game, we’re told there will be five other colors: Red, Orange, Purple, Green, and Yellow.  We were told very specific things about each Sonic.  Red Sonic, for example, can cause explosions to presumably open up new areas, but has a slow speed and a short jump.  Purple Sonic, allegedly parodying Shadow and Silver, will be able to move platforms and float, with the dark nonsensical attitude to boot.  And perhaps the most interesting tidbit: our sources compared the Orange personality to Big the Cat, a lumbering hedgehog even slower than his red counterpart…until he’s powered up.  There is also a yellow Sonic–not a Super Sonic–that will be the fastest of them all, but take damage easily.  The source alleges only two of the personalities can be used in-stage, but all may be able to combine and act as an equivalent Super Guide.  The White Sonic allegedly pops up as an option after dying in a stage a certain number of times.  Using it guarantees the lowest rank at the end.

If that sounds a lot like a Nintendo idea, that’s because it is, and no wonder; we’ve learned Sega is allegedly working directly with some Nintendo developers on this game.  That’s in addition to most of, if not the entire staff for Sonic Colors being back on board for Dimensions.  The Nintendo developers are allegedly assisting Sega design the levels, which we’re told will be more surreal, on similar thinking as Colors.  Music Plant from Sonic Advance 2 was cited as a stage that may see its ideas and concepts revived for Dimensions.

Another concept allegedly coming back: Rival battles.  Eggman’s scheme is allegedly so out of control, it splits apart not just Sonic, but everyone in his world, including his friends, and the mad doctor himself.  One example we learned about was the possibility of Sonic and personalities fighting an evil version of Amy Rose, finally tired of Sonic refusing her advances.  We’re also told Eggman will split, and a kind-hearted version of him will act as Sonic’s guide.

The final item of note from our source is yet another assurance that we will see some 2D gameplay within, and those mechanics will be “directly ripped” from the classic Sonic physics, though we’ve heard that line for a while.

Our source requested anonymity, as the source was not authorized to speak publicly about the above details.  The source also clearly advised to not necessarily take all the information at face value, since this is still a work in progress.

We are likely months away from knowing anything more about this project, if these details hold up.  There remain a lot of matters here that are a bit rough around the edges, and for that and other reasons we’re filing this under Rumor despite having confidence in at least some of the information presented.  Remember: When we learned about Sonic Generations in 2010, six months before its formal unveiling, it was known as just Sonic Anniversary with only a few details clear as well.  This is something we will have to watch over time; do not expect instant gratification.  Nevertheless, we will pass along anything more that we hear.

Sounds like a Nintendo fanboy's wet dream to me XD, and judging by the responses this rumor is getting on neogaf, i'd say that's exactly what this is. A Nintendo fanboys wet dream.

The details don't really make much sense, and it's way too detailed to be a leak. Sounds like something a bored Nintendo fan made who refuses to buy Generations HD

It says the Colors development team is making this game.. well.. that doesn't make any sense, because Iizuka said in an interview a while ago that there is no more "teams" inside Sonic Team and that the colors developers moved to Generations after they were done making Sonic Colors.

So this game apparently has Generations type graphics, and it's whole development time is going to be a little over a year? Yeah I don't buy it XD - Generations development time was 3+ years.

You do know this website gets their information from other forums and then claims it to be their source. I know because i purposely posted a rumour which was part true and part bS and they published it the next day. And the whole bayonetta thing they did definatly came from here(this site).
There is an exclusive Sonic Wii U game coming though.

I know you can't say much, but is it going to be anything like this rumor describes? Even a Yes/No answer would be fine ^^ im just curious.

This isn't exactly insider knowledge i'm spilling, mr nintendo or Mike Hayes as everyone else calls him pratically confirmed that there was a new Sonic game only for Wii U when the whole Sonic Generations press releases were doing the rounds. I think the question is now is whether SG(with extra levels) will make it to the WiiU and it seems its very likely that it could.

but as for  Sonic dimensions if you really want...here's the trailer to the game

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSb7ks1niPc

now considering there hasn't been a cease and desist order by sega if the new game was going to use that title, i think its a pretty safe bet that its bull.

It sounds like a fairly stupid idea to me, so I wouldn't put it past either nintendo or sonic team. I tend to agree with shadi.

That being said, theres obviously going to be a wii-u exclusive sonic. That just fits Segas pattern, and given the sales of Segas products on past nintendo platforms, they'd be stupid not to have one in the works.

As for there not being teams within sonic team anymore; that's sort of bizarre. So the people working on Phantasy Star Online 2 also worked on Generations? That doesn't make sense.

Needless to say I won't bother putting this on the front page... It was extremely far fetched at the start and then when I read that Nintendo would be helping in level design I just rolled my eyes.

Not sure why Sonic Team would need Nintendo to help with level design, besides Mario Galaxy every Mario and Kirby game has had really bland, flat and boring level designs, not to mention they've never done anything like a Sonic level before.

Yeah, this isnt true. I have no doubt there will very likely be a Sonic Colours 2 of some kind probably exclusive to the WiiU. But anyone can see through this one.

Not to go off topic, but was Epic Yarn bland? I haven't played it, but it looked very good to me. Also, I think those are two different teams. Mario is EAD and Kirby is Hal.

But you make a good point; nintendo doesn't really have as much experience with this sort of level design. On the other hand, the game sounded like a fairly slow platformer. Two of the colors were described as being quite slow. I don't think sonic team has put out something like that in a long time either. Billy Hatcher maybe? So it is feasible. We also don't know what the development time table would be, nor what development on the wii u is like. Nintendo may want a launch game, and is sending over people more familiar with the technology. All this, of course, is indulging the ridiculous notion this is true.

This is a bit off topic as well, but since this is a rumor, I don't feel so bad.

Instead of coming up with crackpot gimmicks, like the werehogs, why doesn't Sega just let sonic team develop new IP? Are they still that dependent on sonic to balance the books? It's getting rather annoying that sonic team has had only two new IP since Dreamcast. Three if you count fifth phantom saga and only one if you count Feel the Magic as UGA. I feel like a lot of things would be better received if they weren't conjoined to a sonic game. Likewise, I feel sonic would do better if we didn't get annual releases.

I thought Sonic Team was doing just Sonic games now.. xP i know that Satoshi Sakai was always part of Sonic Team, but I remember reading that PSO2 isn't by Sonic Team somewhere, plus it doesn't have the Sonic Team logo. I've just spent 10 minutes on google looking for the interview but I can't find it, there is so many freaking interviews with Iizuka xP, but I do remember him saying that. I'll post it in this topic once I find it.

@ROJM, yeah I know. I thought maybe you knew more about it. I just hope it's nothing like described on the TSSZ rumor XD

Different versions of Sonic could work for Multiple Screens Gameplay. Like on one screen you have fast Sonic, on the other a Slow one, to solve some kind of puzzles or something.

But yeah I won't really believe this, because there aren't almost any 3rd Party Exclusives for the Wii U announced, and really Sonic woudn't be the first one to unveil/announce.

But that completely destroys the point of sonic. It isn't a puzzle game, nor is it supposed to be slow. It'd be like saying, let's take Daytona USA and put power ups in it where the hornet can change into different cars. When the fuel gauge runs low it can take the form of a Honda to help get it over the finish line.

I'd believe it simply because this idea sounds like something Sonic Team would come up with. I mean, it's been done before. Plus SEGA has already said they won't be porting over Sonic Generations to Wii U, so I'm sure they'll be some new Sonic being made for the platform.

That being said, I don't believe a Sonic game has ever been leaked quite like this, has it? SEGA's been terrible with security but not THIS terrible. Either they've hit an all time low for leaks, or someone's lying.

My guess is that we'll see another full on main series title in 2013 and it'll be on 360, PS3 and Wii U. Wii U will have a few "bonuses", as in utilizing that (in my opinion unnecessary) second screen.

2012 we'll see Sonic 4 Episode 2, a Sonic Adventure 2 port and the next All-Stars game.

That was before Sonic generations orders came in,things change in this buisness. Besides the sonic games for wii U won't be ready in time so they need one to tide people over for launch at least.
