I think he's trying to dispel the notion that Shenmue is this secretly massive franchise every Shenmue fan says it is.

Personally I fell it's bigger than Yakuza but I don't really have much to go on other than "Well it sold 1.2 million on the Dreamcast." I'm predicting Shenmue 3 to have sales of anything between 1.5 million to 3 million but again, nothing to back it up but my gut feeling.

Who honestly thinks Shenmue is "big?" Legendary, sure. Among the most famous Sega properties, sure. But as big as the BIG players, like Final Fantasy? Absolutely fucking not. It's big, but it's not this massive thing. It's a cult game.

Which video? From what I've seen, FF7 has one official video and Shenmue has been uploaded all over the place.

That's an insane number. No more than one mill between both versions, best case. Probably closer to 500k.m

1.2 million is the number given in a Microsoft press release (Yes the Dreamcast one):

So its pretty much 100%, that Shenmue on Dreamcast moved 1.2 million units. The issue that the much cheaper to produce Sonic Adventure sold 2.5 million.

The FF series is huge though, so it's no surprise. They've built up the fanbase over years before 7 and afterwards on a wildly successful platform. Shenmue on the other hand came out on the Dreamcast and only had two instalments.

There's bound to be a huge difference.
