Anyone interested in Dreamcast online gaming?
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:45:26 am »
I wanted to gauge this community's interest in Dreamcast online gaming. Any of you interested? Any of you have the games? What games? I'm gonna take my Dreamcast back online this year through both a newly acquired BBA and a method that lets me use 56k.

You know, what. I wonder if the Dreamcast can play browser and flash games? Like that FPS Zelda game for example. That would be real neat to see it run, or that space game. I have the Dreamcast with a 56K inside of it.

I think this game called one hundred swords, or something along those lines, is an online game, but I am wondering how to get it to play, and if the community is still alive?

I know their is bomberman and of course PSO.

Will it also work on non online DC games? Zombie Revenge for example.

Semmie, is that you?

Dreamcast doesn't have flash nor compatibility with any modern browser based games. Only about six games are online for Dreamcast right now and 100 Swords was never released outside of Japan, and it's not online anymore.

Bomberman is not online. PSO is.

This thread is meant to gauge interest in Dreamcast online play. Please don't post here unless you are either expressing interest or lack thereof.

Nope. Only Dreamcast games made for online will function with this stuff. You can find info here:

I don't know Knuckles, with all that hardware and hassle, it seems like it would be cheaper and easier to buy the broadband adapter on ebay.

I'm not sure that the broadband adapter is gonna be cheaper at this point. Besides, the huge difference is that with the broadband adapter, you can only play the two (?) games that support online multiplayer. With this method, you can play all games online.

But yeah, it is a lot of work to set up... I'm intrigued but I just don't know how much use I'd get out of it, since at this point I've only got a few people who are reliable enough to meet up with online on current gen platforms.

Bomberman is not online. PSO is.

Bomberman was online for a long period of time, and people from the west could play on those servers, that supported it.

Even if a dreamcast game is not released outside of Japan, should not stop a person from playing the game itself. If PSO can be reloaded, then all of these other games should be able to.

Flash does not need a browser to run, it can be ran from DOS. Newer flash types are resources hogs, depending on which version of X script, is used. The Dreamcast should be able to run something equal or great then that, to be able to run a web browser. It is not a Sega Saturn for crying out loud.

I know many people are, and have been playing the online games for years. I am just wondering if your talking about a unique product, or usage for the Dreamcast.

I didn't realize there was a difference.  I figured all online games supported the broadband adapter.

The only games still online that support the BBA are Quake 3 and the Phantasy Star games, though those are the best games still online, so...
