Legendary Developer Seichi Ishii Wants To Reboot Virtua Fighter

Quote
It would seem that another motivation for Seichi Ishii to return to Japan involves fighting games – a genre he has spent plenty of time working with. He worked on the original Virtua Fighter during his tenure at Sega and has games like Tekken and Tekken 2 on his CV.
"I would like to start a fighting game project in a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) or something, and if I can raise the funds, I would like to do it in Japan," says Ishii. "Also, if I can negotiate with Sega and handle the rights to Virtua Fighter, I would like to start a DAO and reboot the IP."
The catch here is that a decentralized autonomous organization is blockchain-based game development – so ...

I'm supportive of the reboot of Virtua Fighter, I just wish a consistent "story mode" would be given to it like what Dead or Alive or Tekken has.

Actually the story mode are always consistent in the game manual books
(except the Game Gear and SMS version of course since they were based on the anime version).
Manga, colab games, and anime version are the ones who took different approach of the stories but the canon one is the one in game manual books.

Yeah but that's just it, the overall story is mostly just a blurb in the manual.

In games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive or SoulCalibur, these games have campaign modes where you can be involved in the story than just read about it.
It would be nice if the Virtua Fighter series has more of a fleshed out story. If it did, I'd believe it would be up there with DoA and Tekken.

Yeah that would be nice but they're not just a blurb.
Check out every characters' page in the game manual book, they are all having their own story.

Reading each story is one thing, but would you rather see it play out? Win one fight, have a cutscene with context before the next fight and so on?

Right now may be but back then I'd say no.
I'd just want to play and go right into action without being interrupted by stories.
Virtua Fighter was an arcade series and for arcade games story wasn't important.
I played them mostly in arcade centers against friends or strangers, not in home.

I guess that's fair... but what if Virtua Fighters had a separate Story Mode and Arcade Mode? And that the arcades use a version fixed on Arcade Mode?

Yes, I'd prefer that way.
When I only have a short amount of time I'd go to arcade mode, but when I have more spare time I could go into story mode/
Just like Dead or Alive 5 or Street Fighter 6.
Street Fighter 6's story mode was mostly praised by critics & fans but as for me I haven't even finished it yet, always prefer to go straight to arcade mode.

That's fine. Something for everyone that way. If I were to play a fighting game at home, I would enjoy some story and context out of it.
