Digital Eclipse head of production Stephen Frost expresses desire to work on a Saturn fighting game collection

Quote
When asked about what sort of retro game collections he’d like for Digital Eclipse to be able to make in the future, Mr. Frost, himself a former employee of Sega of America, first talked about how keen he’d be on a collection of games based around corporate mascots such as Cool Spot (1993), Yo! Noid (1990), and Pepsiman (1999). After that was when he talked about the games you really wanna hear about. (I can see it on your face from way across the internet)

“The other idea, because I’m a fighting game fan, would be to do a Sega Saturn-based fighting game collection,” he continues. “So all the fighting games from the Sega Saturn: the Virtua Fighters, Fighting Vipers, all that stuff in a collection. I think that would be really popular.”

Digital Eclipse’s collections tend to not only be pretty good at reproducing the look and performance of classic games, but they’re also known to jam pack their collections with a bevy of archival material, including high quality box art and manual scans, concept art, design documents, printed advertisements, and ...

I'm hoping that iif we ever get a Sega roster fighting game, it will have the following:
  • It will NOT be a platform fighter like Smash Bros. The critics never said a word over games like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl or Multiversus being anything like Smash Bros., but the moment Sega will do it, they will be quick to regard it a "rip-off" or "answer" to Smash Bros. than regard it it's own thing.
  • Maybe a blend of 3D fighting like Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers, but with some platforming like Power Stones or Dissidia.
  • That it will be an official sequel to "Fighters Megamix". Critics can't argue or compare it to the Smash Bros. series if it's a sequel to an older game.

Maybe call it "Sega All-Stars: Fighters Megamix" or something like that. I'd rather the game rest on the laurels of Fighters Megamix over critics comparing it to Smash Bros.

Yeah, I'd prefer Virtua Fighter-like than Smash Bros-like.
I don't know why but it seems SEGA never uses the term "Sega All-Stars" anymore.
Eventhough Sonic Racing Transformed could use "Sega All-Stars" name they choose to name it with Sonic.
Calling it just "Fighters Megamix" is okay for me but the brand might be not too catchy since it's a SEGA Saturn-only game, not many people ever play it.

Previous backwards compatibility issues with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection have reportedly now been fixed on the Nintendo Switch 2.

According to the official Japanese Nintendo support page, the Mii Fighters in particular are causing some problems with the new console.

The Sega All-Stars series has lots of vital services for Sega that Sega themselves seem to be missing out.
  • Practically a "last lifeline" for classic franchises that Sega haven't touched in years. Even with the Sega Renaissance, even with the upcoming Power Surge, these can't cover all of Sega's classic IPs while Sega All-Stars spin-off can at least bring light to these old franchise as well as potential of renewal to these IPs, such as new fans or interest in the characters.
  • The only Nintendo games that come to mind that include the Nintendo All-Stars are the Smash Bros. games, and the lesser known Captain Rainbow game (which consist of more obscure secondary Nintendo characters), but the Sega All-star series could effectively "compete" with the Smash Bros. series without having to be a fighting game.
  • Sega All-Stars series was, in a way, also competing with various Mario spin-off titles such as Tennis and Kart. The Sega All-Stars games could've covered a wide range of games with a wide variety of interesting characters and locations.

One of my suggestions for a brand-new Sega All-Star game would be "Sega Superstars VR", a direct sequel to PlayStation 2's Sega Superstars but for the PSVR2. instead of standing behind a camera and interacting with the mini-games with recorded movements on the television, with VR you can stand inside the game and interact with it with your movements.
Calling it just "Fighters Megamix" is okay for me but the brand might be not too catchy since it's a SEGA Saturn-only game, not many people ever play it.
That's why I would suggest calling it "Sega All-Stars: Fighters Megamix" instead of slapping a "2" on it. It would be a "cross-sequel" to both Fighters Megamix and Sega All-Stars.

If you're not familiar with the first Fighters Megamix game, then that's fine, given it's still a fighting game that consist of fighters from Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers and other Sega characters.
Some fans may end up Googling it and discover the original Sega Saturn game which would be a nice surprise for them.

And, if there are some critics who are IGNorant to think "Sega All-Stars: Fighters Megamix" is a long-awaited rip-off or knock-off of Super Smash Bros., well it's still an official sequel to Fighters Megamix which is older than the first Smash Bros. game.

Yeah, that series could work. SEGA has dedicated team for Olympic series before, they could be trusted with making this.

Unfortunately SEGA isn't interested in VR anymore.
VR games don't make lot of money.
Being the market is so limited and isn't multi platform enough hurts the potential.
That's why all SEGA franchises that got VR game were done by third parties.

That's why I would suggest calling it "Sega All-Stars: Fighters Megamix" instead of slapping a "2" on it. It would be a "cross-sequel" to both Fighters Megamix and Sega All-Stars.

Like I said SEGA is avoiding using "SEGA All-Stars" brand now.
Capcom is also avoiding it since the cancelation of Capcom Fighting All-Stars and Nintendo seems to never use it.
If the title has to included word, it could be "SEGA Fighters Megamix" or "SEGA Legends: Fighters Megamix" or "SEGA Heroes: Fighters Megamix", still sadly those weren't as good as "Sega All-Stars: Fighters Megamix"
[/list]
