« on: April 22, 2015, 03:41:17 pm »

Someone found this in the HTML, it has been rumoured for some time. Mite be kool. I wonder if there's a new Axis faction on the way as well.

I wanna play with the British Commandos again.

But nobody plays this game here so *PPPPRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPTTTT*

Admittedly I don't play it, but I've been hoping for the British to show up... For such a big player in WW2 we're always so underrepresented.

Sweet they can blow their horn and try to hit people with sticks. Get out of here, put some real elite forces.

Good.

Murica is nice, but there is only so many of the same units I'm willing to see and use in battle across multiple games in and out of genre.

Plus British Commandos are pretty badass

Hmm, again it's probably a result of most media coming from the United States. Of course they are going to focus on their own nation's history. Most Australian war movies focus on Australian involvement (Gallipoli, Breaker Morant, Charge of the Light Horse Brigade etc), ditto other nations (Russia's 'Come and See', 'Stalingrad' etc).

o u.

Also, need a Polish faction so we can charge German tanks on horseback [citation needed].

Good.

To be fair, CoH2's main focus was on the Soviets rather than Americans. The US forces didn't get added in until about a year after release in the 'Western Front' expansion.

I'd really like to see a new Axis faction get added as well. We already have two German factions (Wehrmacht and Oberkommando der Wermacht (totally not the SS, guys)). Would be cool to have Italian forces or something (even though they would need to embellish them a bit since they were kind of useless for the most part). They would have a combination of cool Italian artillery, assault guns and elite infantry (Alpini) and borrowed German armour.

We used to make a lot of war films in the 50's, 60's and 70's it's a shame the fascination with WW2 has dropped off here. I'd love some Band of Brothers style show focused on an allied Army that didn't strategically fail all their biggest operations on the Western Front. ;)

The US failed all their operations? Tell me more, I'm not that familiar with US WWII involvement beyond the obvious or large scale things.

I'm also wondering how the British will play in CoH2. In CoH1 they used mobile bases with trucks, but that seems to be filled by the Oberkommando in this game. They also were infantry heavy, but most players really hated the 'blobbing' gameplay so I think that will change.

Not sure what units we'll see. Probably some late-war stuff like Churchills. I was going to say Centurion, but that wasn't until after the war I believe.

I'll be honest in saying I doubt it is the US being referred to.

The only major problems the US had in WW2 on the western front was(from what IIRC)
A) North Africa. The battle of Kassarine pass was a horrendous start and defeat for American Forces.
B) Operation Market Garden, but this was a British Brainchild(and consequent weak link after british forces failed to capture a necessary bridge).

It has been a while since I looked at WW2 though and I'm always up for learning.

Pretty much every other major operation: Cobra, Overlord, Dragoon, Queen were successes(in conjuction with Allied forces).

I was referring to the US troops but I was retorting Georges joke with one of my own. Not being serious. Their biggest offensive, Operation Market Garden WAS a defeat though.

It was a British brainchild, success or fail, a lot of operations were. But it certainly wasn't the fault of the British that it failed! There was a lot of factors into why it failed. The first was that it had to be planned and executed within 7 days of its conception. Other problems were that spy intelligence underestimated the enemies numbers and tank support. The bridges weren't all captured intact as Germans destroyed them and the British had to rebuild the bridges overnight. And the American para's were scattered to the wind and didn't meet up with the XXX Corps as scheduled and on top of that little things like terrible weather and broken radios hampered the whole operation.

Of course you're right sharky. My mistake. I remember the American scattering now from Medal of Honor allied assault. So thanks for the correction!

Na no worries! It was an allied failure all round. Wasn't any one particular nations fault, it was a hastily planned gamble that didn't pay off. I was just busting Georges balls about it being the largest US campaign in Europe after his comment. ;)
