New characters that will join the party in version 4.0, to be released in the future.
I know some people will say "oh but why don't you add common fighters, like Ken?"
the answer is because I find it boring.

I always value these "curve balls" more, giving forgotten characters a chance, than adding more characters that do the same thing that another character already does. I've always followed a rule throughout my decades as a game developer: Doing things differently. I've never been attracted to doing something exactly like the original game - I always thought it was a waste of time, and that it would be better to play the original game.

I respect those who like it, but originality counts a lot for me :)

SEGA boss wants to revive the SEGA spirit of the 80s and 90s

Quote
Speaking to The Game Business Mr. Utsumi said he wants SEGA to cover all bases going forward and have software for everyone, “I’d really like to revive that SEGA spirit. Sometime around 2000, even around the 1980s, we were regarded as a very cultural company. If you compare it to the music industry, I believe SEGA brings rock and roll. In the arcade business, we really had a rock and roll mindset and trying to provide new stuff. So nowadays, we want Sega to always be trying something different, while ..."

Console Heroes Partners with SEGA® to Launch "The SEGA Circular Challenge," a Real-World Tribute to 90s Gaming Hype

Quote
Running September 12–14, 2025, the campaign invites fans to download and "clip" a retro-inspired SEGA flyer — The SEGA Circular — and redeem it at participating retro game stores across the U.S. for one free Console Heroes collectible. These collectibles are miniature dioramas that are hidden inside replica Genesis game cartridges, each one opening up to reveal a 3D scene from legendary SEGA titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog™ 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Altered Beast™, and more. While supplies last, one per customer.
"It's more than a giveaway — it's a shared memory brought to life," said Andrew Yanofsky, co-founder of Console Heroes.
"We wanted to bring back that specific moment — when you saw a deal in a flyer, brought it to your parents, and made your case. Now, instead of 'maybe for Christmas,' fans actually get ..."

Golden Axe Is Being Unofficially Ported To The Atari 2600

Quote
alfredtdk is porting the Master System version of Golden Axe to Atari's legendary console instead, as that is their "favorite version" of the game (Sega's 8-bit console was incredibly popular in Brazil, and will have been many people's first gaming platform in that region). The game's title is Tarik - A Golden Axe Story.
"I love the Master System version, so I'm trying to bring maximum visual fidelity to SEGA's 8-bit console in this port," explains alfredtdk. "It also brings an arcade element missing from home consoles: when opponents are finally defeated, they transform into clay creatures. While it's still a work in progress, we currently have two transitional screens available, but it's ..."

"Definitely Possible" - Could A Golden Axe: Revenge Of Death Adder Mega Drive Fan Port Be On The Way?

Quote
While Sega clearly didn't feel a port was possible back in the '90s, coder @ray_castello https://x.com/ray_castellohas given fans hope that an unofficial conversion could be on the horizon.
Before you get too excited, the image above is a "quick test", but Castello says that "with enough time and dedication, a simplified adaptation would definitely be possible."
The scaling effects in the original version would naturally have to be removed, along with other features that might be beyond the 16-bit system – but  ...
